Dor, Mary, MN, August works best for me as well, the later the better. I can make August 8 work. I work for a school district and our new staff starts July 30 for training and kiddos start August 14. My job is all about training so those 2 wks are hectic. But, I can take a day. Looking forward to it!

William your son is off to a great start. He is exactly what the Navy is looking for a real go getter. I don't know why my husband and his friend advised my son not to do staff pickup will have to ask. I would have thought and it probably is an honor. So no disrespect to those who have sons and daughter doing it currently. Just advised son not to do it. I sorta came in and out of the conversation just remember hearing over and over qualify, qualify, qualify. And don't hang around people that cut corners they will only get you in trouble. Of course they will all have dry dock at some point but said if he can help it try and not get put on one that is going into dry dock shortly after being assigned. I asked do you get a say in which ship you get, he said if you choose whatever one is over in Japan (can't remember name) you will probably get it. He said that is a pretty part of the world too. Favorite was Guam, Hawaii being a close second. Nuke subs I hear are suppose to be the best trained. I guess close quarters and being around officers more to get things qualified more efficiently. My hubby works at a Nuke plant now Dominion North Anna. Although he himself was on the "Ike" an aircraft carrier he and others say you can tell a difference. My son as of now though wants air craft carrier. He is in A school now he says GC has way better food then BC. As he puts it you spend less time in bathroom now. not a rave review, but a step up. Loves to be able to walk to Subway.

I'm 99% sure that a holiday Monday won't affect the routine on Fri/Sat; it just means he'll have a day of liberty in GC Monday.  Sorry :)

quick question.  My SR graduates RTC on 8/30.  Since it is Labor Day weekend, we he have extra leave or will he still have to fly out to GC Saturday morning?

There is an A school graduation every Friday and new classes form every week.

So glad to ear that many moms are getting to see their sailors. It does make a moms life easier when we have some communication with our sons and daughters.
We spoke to our son twice last week. He was excited about school starting and getting back to a " normal" routine. I wish everyone all the best as they begin the next phase in Power School.

NCNarrator - glad your son got a hold of you with the correct time!  Enjoy your time with him....

We had a nice talk with our son tonight - the first "full" week of power school went well and they have their first test on Tuesday.  They went to to a minor league baseball game on Saturday - The Riverdogs - said they bbq'd in the parking lot before the game....had a good weekend.....  all is well :)  He said it had been raining off and on (but what's new!).

Hope everyone had a great weekend.....
