My son's handwriting is awful too but he was selected as an ET, which was his first choice. However his grammar and spelling are excellent Lol.

Comment by NAVY-em's_Mom on April 12, 2013 at 6:34am

My son just started school in February as an EM.  They go to school with the ET's for at least the first few months.  He said grades are posted with names and ranked.  So everyone knows what your grades are.  My son's first choice was ET, but I'm glad he got EM...I thought he was more of an EM personality.  I think he got chosen as an EM cause his handwriting is awful. He said they always tell him to spend his study time on his handwriting (grades are great).  He said he jokingly told the chief "The navy chose me on my mental ability, and not my handwriting skills".  LOL

My son is going to be an EM! Was our second choice since Dad was ET hoping for that, but we are very happy. Any moms with EM's out there that could give any info on Job. thanks. He comes down to Goose Creek 1st weekend in May.

To MomThatLovesHerSon:  My son had duty after PIR and needed to be back by 1500 hours.  We had enough time for lunch and saw him for breakfast in the morning.

Comment by Adam'sProudMom on April 12, 2013 at 1:19am

I had forgotten, Dan's mom, about the ZERO reception in their rooms on base.  Adam called home weekly, but he always had to call from outside.  If I tried to call when he was in his room, it wouldn't go through.

Also, MomWhoLovesHerSon (and any others not at Goose Creek yet), they aren't allowed to have their phones in the building where their classes are (for security reasons), so they can't just carry them around with them all the time.

We text most every night for a couple of minutes, avg a call about once a week. Sure it will get less as he gets further in the pipeline. But I'll take it for now :)

in A school, they can call whenever they have time.  You can give him his cell phone at the airport.

Comment by MomThatLovesHerSon on April 11, 2013 at 10:48pm

OK Nuke moms, educate me on PIR weekend and my Nuke son.  Is this how it is:  After PIR, he can spend Friday with us until I have to have him back to RTC by 8 or 9 whatever he is told.  And then he will probably ship out Sat. and that could be anytime from very early morning to evening.  And I can go to the airport and spend the time with him until he leaves.  And he might even ship on Sun if there were transportation problems.  Is that about right?

Also what happens once he gets to A school as far as communication?  When is he allowed to call me?  Is he allowed more calls than in boot camp?
