Beans7469 first of all congratulations to your son and good luck on his comps. But trust me, you do not want to be calling up the recruiter over how many days leave your son gets while on T-track. Lol. My son spent his first Navy Christmas, New Years and his 21st birthday in boot camp. It is all just the luck of the calendar.

Comment by CindyLou (Louisville) on November 6, 2012 at 7:45pm

beans 7469... T-tracks is the hold time between A school and Power school. They are assigned to watch duty during this time and some of the classes are chosen to cover watch duty during the holiday and therefore only get one week of leave. Last year, my son was in one of the classes that had to cover watch during standdown.

Comment by beans7469 on November 6, 2012 at 6:31pm

My son is an MM, class 1246.  Will graduated A school 11/16.  Will then be on t-track.  Does not get two weeks off, only able to come home after class on 12/21, then needs to be back before 7AM 12/28.  Feels wrong the t-trackers get less time, but I don't know what t-track really is... I plan to call the recruiter this week.

Comment by DebbiL on November 6, 2012 at 4:53pm

My son's recruiter told us that they have to finish A-School before they can RAP. He said they'll get leave between A-School and Power School, so this way they can take 2 weeks at home, but only be charged for 1 week of leave time.

Sending positive vibes to all those taking comps today!  Blessings to our Sailors.

My son has no information on leave during stand down yet either. He has been in GC for 4 weeks now and has been in classes for a week. Still waiting to phase up. That will happen on the 16th.

FWIW, I've read on here that Goose Creek is standing down Dec 21 - Jan 6. But what my son seems to be saying is they can't be gone that whole time. He's pretty new there and we're both working on figuring this out. I'll know more after I see him over Thanksgiving. He's planning on being home Dec 27 or 28.

My son is an EM (1239) and he said they were told they would get to go home for Christmas on Dec 28 - Jan 6 . I'm disappointed he won't be home on Christmas Day but at least he'll be home for part of the holiday. Not sure why they wouldn't be allowed to come home earlier as he graduates on Dec 7 and he can't take leave til after Christmas!

sailors in prototype do not get to take leave during holiday stand down.  Sailors in A school and Power School are actually encouraged to take the time off.  Sailors on t-track and grad hold have been able to get some leave over holiday stand down but not necessarily the whole 2 weeks.  My son graduated Power School in October and did not take leave after graduation so he was able to take 2 weeks leave while the sailors who took leave after graduation were only allowed 1 week off.

SouthCarolinamom, if I got to do it over, I'd have skipped PIR and gone to Charleston instead.  We barely had any time with our Sailor after PIR and he slept most of it. He flew out at 5am on Sat.  If we just met him in Charleston we could have had all day Sunday with him.  Really sorry about the job loss.....
