Hi, y'all. My son is at GC and just started class (1241 MT). Anyone else have a loved one in this class?

ColoradoMom- yeah I just heard about the recent cuts, I'm praying mine makes it through. He is on the edge. I haven't heard from him in few days. Last I heard was he passed his first ICE test an Thursday and fitness test last Friday. He seems to barely be hanging on. We went to see him last weekend and he is super stressed out and exhausted.

I know at one point my son said they had 24, then a bunch were rolled back into their class.  At that point, they had 30.  However, I think there was just a little shake up plus the ETs and EMs are split.  Now, I have no idea, even though he did tell me once.  It wasn't a detail I needed to think about at the time.

My son had 24 or 25 when his class started.  I know that at least 4 of them have "gone" for academic or other reasons.  Could be more.  I haven't asked recently, but I heard about a recent round of academic cuts.  They graduate Aug. 24th.   If they can just hang in there. . .

Comment by William in Nashua on July 16, 2012 at 7:57am

My son had 24 in his ET A school class of home 16 graduated and 1 was rolled back for medical reasons and graduated in the next class. So 17 graduated and the rest flunked out or were kicked out for acting stupidly.

Suesue-- I think my son told me there were like 30 in his class.

B'snukemom, Hi,  My sailor son went to Boot camp 11/2/10.  His PIR was Jan 7th.  There was something about not have a  graduation on the xmas holiday Fridays.  I do not remember knowing the date of graduation till that first form letter he sent about 4 weeks in.  It gave his address, (which we already had from the recruiter) What people were invited to PIR (4people on list , but 3 of his friends went also.  Was not a problem for them to get in.) And there was about 5 hand printed sentences at the bottom of the page, basically 'saying this is intense, I miss you, I love you.'   It will be interesting to see how your sailor's BC  time works out since it is over a week earlier the ours, and the Holiday does not fall really close to Friday.  Maybe he will be graduated before xmas.

My neice lives in Chicago and through the adopt a sailor program  arranged to 'adopt' him for Christmas Day.  She invited us to their home also.  So we picked up sailor in GL drove him to Chicago(with in 40 mi limit) for the day and had to have him back by 6pm. I think the majority of the sailors in GL over the Holidays are adopted by an organization, church or and officer's family.

hello all!!

welcome all newbies!

karen--they usually get liberty right after PIR till about 6 or 7 that evening.  most of the sailors will be leaving for the airport on saturday morning (EARLY!!)   we met our son at the airport at 1AM and stayed until his flight left at 7AM    flight times differ.  your sailor will be able to tell you his info right after PIR  hope this helps.

My son will be going to bc Sept 11 then to nuke school at goose creek, I am such a noob at this, trying to get all the info I can and be somewhat aware of what I need to do other than the phone card, lots of letters and be at PIR hopefully without needing boxes of tissues, does anyone know how long between PIR and leaving for A school?
