Holiday Standdown= "Christmas break", last year started about 12/15 and lasted till after New Years I believe. Doesn't happen at boot camp though,

What is the "Holiday Standdown" - my son doesnt clue me in as much as I would like.

I am so sorry for this issues, hurt feelings, etc going on.  I pray for all of our Nukes everyday.  This is a hard journey for them and for us.

Mary-MM/PS, my sailor went back this morning and is classing up 7/16 as well. She is looking forward to getting back to school. She did say that they were starting something new as far class schedules go and that they are planning to be finished by holiday standdown. Something about too many coming back after leave and having diff passing comps. Who knows? Your SR may be the one she was texting all week lol.

Uffda6- please keep us updated about your son's progress. It is so hard when you cannot be right there with them during upsetting situations!! We parents just get the phone call that the sky is falling and you sit and worry and many times the problem will work itself out and things are fine, but do you get a phone call to tell you about that? not usually!! :)

And Congradulations to Mariab!!!

I have been reading about the sailor who is facing Captain's Mast.  My heart goes out to him and his family.  As upsetting as the situation is, the only thing she can do is support, encourage and love him.  It is so hard when our children grow up and we can no longer fix things and make them right like we did when they were little.  Our children are grown up and as much as we want to fix things for them - we can't.  It is so hard to sit by and watch them struggle.  I do not know what the end result will be, but I pray it will be fair.

That brings me to another point.  That is all the DUI's.  I know my own son is very concerned and disgusted by the amount of underage drinking he sees.  To him it seems that many are just getting away with it.  This is of great concern to me.  Drinking and driving can have serious consequences.  I do not understand how they can come down so hard for minor infractions and then look the other way for a dangerous trend.  Something needs to be done about the drinking!

Our son's PIR was 5/18...his bus left the base at 12:30 a.m. for the airport and we met him at the O'Hare at 1:30 a.m.  His flight left at O'Hare at 10:30 a.m.  Keep in mind that your son/daughter may have duty after PIR...which will mean that they have to be at base a bit earlier than the rest or can't leave immediately after PIR.  But treasure every moment you can be together!!!!

Could anybody on here inform me when their children flew out of Great Lakes and which airport the sailors flew out of to Charleston?
Comment by GodBlessAmerica on July 2, 2012 at 1:02am

Yes, Mariab, congratulations on becoming a grandma.  Being a grandma is a world of sweet treasures!!  :)
