7 weeks of off crew, NavyMomLG.

Check out This Blog. They really wrote a nice run down even if it was from the Officer's point of view. The explanation of the schedule is a big help. As long as you know what week he starts on, you can follow his schedule. After the first or second round, it gets easier to understand. :)

susank- Where is the Trader Joe's in Washington? Is it closer to the Tacoma/Seattle area from Bangor/Bremerton? I'd never heard of the place until my friends down here at Clemson gave me these amazing cookies from there that they sell at Christmas Time. I'd love to stock up next year. :)

RE: cooking while in prototype ... I had 2 words for my son.... CROCK POT. Chili, stew, soup, pulled pork, pot roast, good hearty cheap guy stuff. They can only make/eat so much pasta!

welcome littleone68!

I know how little I feel like grocery shopping and then cooking after a long (or any day!) at work, I can't imagine how a 20-year old would feel about it after those crazy days.  Just one more life skill they need to figure out to help them survive this career they have chosen.  I still want to hug them and cook for them though - but I have absolutely no desire to clean for them LOL!

Can any of you experienced Prototyper's clarify if they have 7 or 8 weeks of Off Crew (I believe that is the correct term).  I thought I read on here that there were 8 but my son said 7.  I am trying to follow his schedule so I know the best time to call or text him.  I know they have their weekends during this time, but then go on that crazy schedule.

Welcome littleone68! You'll find lots of encouragement, information & answers to questions here. Enjoy this time between boot camp & A School - called INDOC for indoctrination. They can breathe a little!

Thank Goodness for Trader Joes near the Bangor base in Washington. They have some healthy prepared meals. I give my sailor gift cards to that place! He is super busy even on shore duty! Training, training, and more training!

Amen Emily! Protype is hard work! It is all hard! I wished so many times I was around to cook and clean for my sailor! Somehow they manage but is is not easy.

Hello Nuke Mom's. My Codeman has been at GC one week now waiting to class up for A school. Just wandering how often a new class starts and how many sailors to a class. Thanks for any info. ;)

There's definitely an excuse for not eating healthy in Prototype. It's working 12-14 hour shifts  days in a row and using your "weekend" to catch up on sleep/switch your sleep schedule. Only a half hour break for lunch. And barely any time to grocery stop (the commissary is almost always closed when they get off their shifts... trust me, I suggested "swinging by" on the way home from work for several weeks in a row).

They have much less time to eat healthy in Prototype than they do in A, Power School, or the Fleet. Aaron gained a ton of weight in Prototype. But lost 2 pants sizes on his first deployment (and that was only 2 months of working out).
