Funny think is that HAD him in deferment.  Then he sent orders from boot to NNPTC and they said they had them, then low and behold, they only have the deferment.  oh and get this one... I will send you the "chat"he had in January 2012  Sorry it's long... but Can you count the contradictions.... grr

"Sending in a copy of your military orders will cause the interest rate of your loan to be fixed at 0% until you are no longer active duty, and you would not be on forbearance, so you would need to make payments."

"But the copy you already had put me on forbearance with a 6% interest rate for a year."

"Yes, because that's when they expired."

"My orders didn't change until February."

"Yes, but they expire after a year."

"Alright, but if you already received a copy of my orders, why didn't my interest rate go to zero, and why was I on forbearance?"

"If you sent them now, it would be retroactive."

"I understand that. You didn't answer my question. Will I go on forbearance if I send you orders?"

"No. Your interest rate would be set at 0%, and you would need to make payments."

"And all the interest that was accrued when you put me on forbearance would be removed from the account?"

"Yes."

"So why didn't that happen the first time?"

"I don't know the answer to that. It wasn't written in the notes on your account."

"I've been told for almost a year that the policy was the interest rate would be capped at 6%, and the loan would be in forbearance. And you're telling me now if I sent in orders, I wouldn't be on forbearance, and my interest rate would be capped at 0%?"

"No, it would be capped at 0%, and the loan would be in forbearance."

"And I wouldn't need to make payments?"

"Correct."

MamaCindy, I think the rental agency for BS is AHERN.

Comment by William in Nashua on March 19, 2012 at 8:55am

J's mom they do have a garage like that at Goose Creek where sailors can work on their own cars my son mentioned it yesterday. It has bays in it with lifts and they have loaner tools. My son said he is going to change his oil I sent him motor oil and the oil filter. He said it is inexpensive only about $5 to use the garage and tools.

MamaCindy - my son has rented a furnished house with three of his nuke buddies in BS.  I am not sure if they specifically looked for a place that was furnished or not, but they did find it thorugh the Navy agency for rental places (can't remember what it's called).  Not sure if the first place they almost rented from was furnished or not.  I think they may have bought a couple things here and there, but it at least was furnished with enough to get by.  I had to laugh when he bought a comforter before he even got to BS--he bought a king size, since he had no idea what size his bed was.  Of course, a king size comforter works for any size bed.  Ha ha

MamaCindy - my son stayed in GC for prototype.  Rented a really nice unfurnished house with three other guys.  When we went for power school grad, we took his futon he had here at home and his tv and an extra recliner and chair we had.  Each of his roommates did pretty much the same thing.  They did not have a couch - we bought one at Goodwill on Friday evening after PS grad, then stopped at a yard sale Saturday morning and bought another nicer (and it was cheap) one.  They used both. I had been to an IKEA store and bought some cheap pots and pans.  There is also a thrift store on base, just behind the Subway.  I don't know what kind of things they have, but between Craigs list and the things parents brought, they had more than they needed. A lot of times when they get ready to move on, they will find someone in a class behind them and sell them their things.
