mamma cindy having been from this area this is a very busy area, and it does not rely only on the nukes and the race way for rentals even summer rentals are difficult to get unless you have years of history renting from the same people. Those who work in Albany and the many surrounding areas rent full time in this area so I am not sure you can count on a furnished rental.

Ok Ladies and Gent!  I know I havent been on in a few weeks.  It's DI season for me, and I have 3 teams advancing to state so my "evening time(Frion 3:30 pm til 9pm ) most every night is booked.   But I need a little rant here.... Bear with me
Sailor Son did college, got his college loans through****bank. When he went DEP he called the lender to let them know he was going military. They granted him a waiver, of sorts, ( the legal-eze has escaped me at the moment) and told him when he gets his orders to send and fax them... WHICH HE DID AFTER BOOT CAMP>  Then the lending facility began calling us and I wouldn't fork over his number because he was in A school. He called them and AGAIN faxed and mailed his information to the lender.   While in Prototype it happened AGAIN and now that he is in BS waiting they have begun calling him AGAIN>..... HE has sent the information 4 times... and 4 times it shows it has gone through and 4 times they keep saying they don't have the right orders......

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated... I am po'd and he is LIVID!

Our son graduates Power School EM3  Class 1107-2 on 3/30/2012.  He doesn't have to report until Friday 4/13/2012, so he's following us home for a while than off to Ballston Spa NY.  Has found a furnished place in Bal Four Beatty (Quiet Harbor) neighborhood. He's very anxious to move on, and we're very excited about having him closer (we live in MD)

Mama Cindy- Your son will most likely need to provide his own furniture. I know there were like one or two apartment complexes that I did find though that had furniture you could rent through them.
That being said, Aaron and his roommate rented furniture through this place:  http://www.fsirentalfurniture.com/

Long term, probably not a good idea. But for single sailors who only need the furniture for six months before they move onto a submarine or ship, perfect. As far as I know they didn't have any problems with the company. And the furniture was pretty good quality. I think they did one of the smallest packages. They had a couch, chair, and coffee table. And they had two bedrooms worth of a bed, nightstand, and dresser.

MamaCindy,

When I went through the program (OK, a long time ago, and in Idaho for proto), most of the rentals were furnished, because the nucs were a big part of the rental market, and that's what most wanted.  Lots of folks have posted on here mentioning that their nucs were in furnished rentals, so I suspect that is still the case.  For NY, I would think it is even more so, since the other big driver in the rental market are seasonal people for the racing season.  There were also nucs who rented unfurnished back then also, especially married couples.  Hopefully, some folks with more current experience than mine will respond also...

OK, experts.  I have a question about Prototype.  My Sailor can't ask this question as the SLPO's say - "have you passed Power School yet?" if anyone asks questions about Prototype, so I'll come to the source!  Are most of the places the Nukes rent furnished or do they furnish them themselves?  As in kitchen, beds, etc.  I'm not trying to jump the gun here as my Sailor is working very hard to pass PS, but our family is having a massive estate/garage sale to benefit my parents and I'm wondering whether to hold onto a few things that are perfect for a temporary situation like they will be in -  as in leftover kitchen things from Sailor's sister college apt.    Thanks for info.  Hope all are having a beautiful weekend.

sorry...car port.  Also had a little patio out the door off the living/dining area.  Would definately stay again if our sailor were staying in GC.  He will be in NY with in the month.  Now we can look for places to stay when we visit there.

Jo1 The 3 bedroom unit we stayed in last Dec had NO unpleasant smell.  We did not feel the dish washer left the dishes clean, and just washed them by hand.  The washer and dryer worked great, large apacity.  Remember to bring your own laundry soap and dryer sheets.  If I remember right there was a grill on the ar port.
