Hi Ozzie's mom,
Just give your son a lot of support. Skype is a wonderful way to stay in contact and it's so good when you can talk to them and see their faces.
my son just left for nuke school this am. any advice to give for me?
Someone mentioned a few pages back that when they stayed at the Villa's the one they stayed in had a musty smell. We're thinking of renting one this summer and I was wondering if anyone else thought they smelled musty. I'm just wondering because our family has allergies and asthma. Thank you.
hk1853 - My husband and I stayed in the "roundette" cabins at Short Stay. I have mentioned it on here a few times as a great getaway for the Goose Creek nukes. If I remember correctly, there were also some apt type buildings. I do know there was also a campground and a nice marina with small boats for rent. I do remember there is some type power plant not to far that you can see, but it did not bother us. Our little cabin was right along a canal/lake??. The evenings were absolutely gorgeous with the sunsets and the birds. We made our own reservations. Our sailor son was supposed to be there when we signed in (neither my husband or me are prior military), but was in class and couldn't get there. The lady at the front was really nice - said no problem - "we like to take care of our nukes". We stayed there a couple nights, then did move to the villas for the power school grad. Would definitely go back. Sorry - don't remember how much we paid, but if you are interested, I will see what I can find.
My son is also graduating from A school 3/23 class 1210A. Would LOVE some pictures if anyone is attending graduation next Friday.
Bye BunkerQB, we will all miss you. You have been here longer than most of us.You had and gave so much knowledge to many moms and girlfriends as they began their Navy experience.Than you! It will be interesting to hear what type of career your son pursues after the Navy. Please don't forget about your Navy family. Be sure to write home once in a while.
Since William has "reactivated" I can safely sign off. My son came home last night for good. He finished his five year commitment and chose not to reup. This group is a gas. I know I can drop in any time and will see our "free to speak our minds" nuke mamas and papas along with wifeys speaking their minds on many subjects, naturally at the same time. I am phasing to a supportive role - lurking periodically. I won't delete my profile because I will still be "Navy For Moms Emeritus" on the San Fran & a few other groups. After all I have to maintained the Survival Guide and a number of lists (such as PIR, Ratings, Ships). Will be devoting more time to our pursues, You'll find me in the San Fran group, if you ever need me. Chao.
Welcome back William we did miss your input, and you did not get to put a guess in for the 1700th member joining date. Did I state that right ladies? 3 of the 4 sun catchers have been sent out. I am waiting for Angie00mom to get me her address. You can email me at: mnsnoflakes@yahoo.com
Not sure if any remember my sailor telling us he was told that since he was working grad hold at the reactor area doing things like painting and landscaping, and had a badge and clearance for the area, he would probably end up staying in GC for prototype.?? Well Marks comment on that was it takes next to nothing to print another piece of plastic and the job and clearance was no guarantee he would stay there. Well Mark you were right. He texted recently he is prefill, and is detaching from GC on Ap 6th and is given 7 days to get there, settle in and report in NY. Prototype in NY was his first choice, so he is happy. This is just 1 more thing I am giving to God to help him and guide him through the move.
Thank you all for the great advice! Is there anyone else here with a sailor graduating A school next Friday 23rd? My son is class 1210A and we can't be there.
Oh yes the insect repellent. It is 3M Ultrathon and it is $7.50 a tube at Amazon.com it might seem a bit pricey but it lasts 12 hours and is the best thing out there.
