Congratulations Suebal!  Have a safe trip.  I wish we were that close so I coud see Sam graduate A School in May.  It's more like 9 hours of airports and flying.  We are already saving for the trip to see the Power School graduation.

Good mornign everyone. Heading up to GC today to watch my sailor graduate A-school! Can't wait to get my arms around him :)

Doreen and Colorado Mom--it's VERY normal and usual for Nukes to have to be at the airport (believe it or not) as early as 1:30 in the morning. The Navy has no qualms about no sleep (but we all know that by now don't we). My son was at O'Hare at 5:30 am. We were actually there BEFORE him. Spent the day with him at the airport (allllllll day) but actually had a LOT of fun. O'hare is actually a pretty groovy airport...lots to see. Do wear comfy shoes tho! His flight left at 7:30 that night.

Ah the roller coaster that is the Navy! It's been a LOT easier this period of time (2-1/2 months) than during the 8 weeks of bootcamp--minimal contact, etc. NOW we Skype once a week--we have a standing date. We text, call. It makes it a LOT easier. Still can't wait to get him in my arms though! C'mon noon...that's my estimated time of departure for a 9 hour drive! WOOHOO!

PS - Many congratulations to the suncatcher winners!

MN Mom, I just checked your etsy site.  Those are so beautiful! My mother is in a nursing home and I can just see one hanging in her window. Love 'em!

Mary, and any other NUKE moms,   Most certainly e-mail me and I will send you a picture brochure  that has all the (16 designs) of the sun catchers I make. I have a etsy site also,  www. mnsnoflakes.etsy.com  but it is not quite up to date with most current pics and info. I need to get better at the promoting end of this little business.  My new Mother's Love for this year is crystal hearts with pastel blue accents, and a 2012 silver tag attached. That is also not pictured anywhere yet.           Any way

Mary I am  keeping this cake recipe...I just started South Beach eating this week, so in about 2 weeks, I will be eating Cake again.  Thanks

My son just PIRed on Friday.  His experience was the same as the others.  There were groups of Nukes leaving throughout the day on Sat.  The last group was leaving around 5:30 PM., but the first group left early in the AM.  My son classes up on the 26th, if plans stay the same.  He also is focusing on settling in.  Yesterday was painting.  Today was moving chairs and setting up some type of stage.  Don't really know too much, but it is so nice to hear his voice and see FB posts!

Colorado Mom - Hi, my son was in the same PIR on 3/2/12.  I think they are in the same class in A school, too.  He sent me 1224A starting on Mar 19.  Maybe our sailor's are friends.

CodeMansmom - my son was one that left with 23 other nukes on Sunday morning at 5:40 a.m.  I don't think this is normal, I would assume he will be leaving on Saturday.  Plan to meet him at the airport to spend more time with him before his plane takes off.  He won't know this info until the day before PIR.  Also, what I have learned is they don't class up right away.  My son had PIR on 3/2 and is starting class on 3/19.  We were planning a trip in April to visit him, but put it back to May to make sure he is more than 4 weeks in to get weekend liberty.  He is just getting used to life in Goose Creek right now and using all his electronics that he missed while in basic training.

Hi CodeMansMom.  I can't speak for everyone, but from all the reading I've done and my own Sailor's experience, yes, the Nukes usually go out right after PIR.  My Sailor PIRd 3/2 and the Nukes left in groups (by brother divisions) throughout Saturday.  One group didn't leave till early Sunday morning, but I don't know if that's "normal" or not.  I would pretty much assume he's leaving sometime Saturday.

Hello everyone. My son PIR's on 3/30 Div 105. Haven't heard his specific job yet. He's hoping for MM. Don't know yet if he will be flying straight to GC on the 31st or not. Do most Nuke's ship out the next day? Any info or advice would be greatly appreciated.

NancyJo & Tina41, Thanks all for the son encouragement. Sometimes just not sure where that boys head is at... He is only 17 too, so I do know that has ALOT to do with it.

So Thankful for all of ya'll. This helps put in perspective all the men/women serving. We really get what they are doing with all the extra info & support from each other. I think we would each be lost without one another!! With the added support I receive, I am better able to help support my kids,They are working very hard to make it, and need us there behind them with nothing but encouragement.
