While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Comment by ColoradoMom Nuke ET on March 10, 2012 at 12:22am: @31 Mom - MM = Machinist's Mate; EM = Electrician's Mate; ET = Electronics Technician. Several weeks into boot camp, recruits can request a particular rating, but the Navy chooses. Those ratings are assigned in approximately a 50-30-20 ratio, but again, it really depends on the needs of the Navy.

Pat, that info is awesome. Thanks. I am not sure what my son is going to be. I think either ET or EM (can you let me know what those are?!!) But he talked about 6 mos of schooling at a time.

Comment by Pat on March 9, 2012 at 10:01pm: For new members, Welcome!...all enlisted Nukes do A school...3 months for MM, 6 months for EM and ET. Then all Nukes do 6 months of Power School. Both of these schools are in Goose Creek.

Then upon successful completion, all Nukes will do 6 months of hands-on called Prototype. Some Nukes will go to Ballston Spa in New York, some will stay in Goose Creek. Some MM will be chosen to go on to ELT training.

Nukes are given the chance to put down their preference, but ultimately it is the needs of the Navy.

He originally wanted to stay in GC, but now seems to be excited about making a change. He will be sharing a little house with a friend he's known since boot camp. West coast boy is looking forward to seeing some east coast landmarks on his trip to NY, praying for good weather...

Connie, that sounds like such a sweet setup for your Sailor and his friends!

Comment by Navy Mom x3 on March 9, 2012 at 6:30pm: Yep, 31mom, he has 6 month of Power School in SC and then I don't know where for Prototype. He told us that he would start Power School in July but I'm not sure if that is still what is happening. He wants to stay in SC for Prototype but I would love to visit NY!

He always knew what job he wanted once he went Nuke since he is such a gear head. Every motor he touched had to be dismantled and reassembled... Not always with good results. He also wants to go nuclear welder after proto if he can. I'm just really glad my kid is growing up into a man with who has to use his head now.

His friends that left in February got a 3-bedroom house and have been saving the third bedroom for him. Of course I don't have any idea where it is or what it's like. My son will probably ask for directions once he gets in the general area :)
