Thanks everybody, good advice!! especially Mark, I know what you mean. My son has been looking in Bremerton but he had a nice apt in Ladson SC and was disappointed with all the ones in Bremerton. I wish he would live in the Mil housing, however they are trying to save money. No kids yet. : )

heebsmom - Emily's impression of Bremerton is a fairly common one. There are a lot of nice areas in Bremerton though, and some significant advantages. Full disclosure - I'm a happy resident myself. His best option is to get in Jackson Park married housing, which is in Bremerton, but is in Central Kitsap schools, the same district as Silverdale. I personally wouldn't consider living in Silverdale, because it is one continuous traffic mess. I have a thirty minute walk to work (to where the Seawolf is based), easy access to the Seattle ferry, and good places to eat, especially near the ferry, a historic theater with good live shows, and a new movie theater under construction that is supposed to have all the frills. The apartments in Silverdale are definitely newer, and mostly nicer, but it's not nearly as convenient for a sailor assigned to the Seawolf. I would suggest keeping an open mind about Bremerton, at least checking with the other guys on the boat before committing to a long lease.

heebsmom- I would suggest they don't rent in Bremerton. It's just not the greatest area to live in in my opinion. About 10 minutes down the road is Silverdale. That's where a lot of military families from both Bremerton and Bangor bases live. Port Orchard I've heard good things about. Really nice area, but more of a drive.

Heather... I nursed my "future nuke" (PIR in 14 days) for the first 8 weeks.  He doubled his weight, from 9.5 to 19, in that 8 weeks.  Then I had to go back to work!  My body was so used to feeding him so much there was no way I could work 8 hours without being in misery.  My office didn't have a quiet place to pump during the day so after 2 days of agony, I had to wean him.  He was gaining weight so fast that the doc put him on whole milk at 4 months and lowfat at 6 months.  At 1 year, that boy weighed 32 lbs!

The next boy, 15 now, was breast fed for the first year.  I had the year off work so that was really the only reason.  Then he bit me and he was done.  I do grow them big in my house and this one also doubled his weight in 8 weeks, from 8.3 to 16.8.  He wasn't as big since he was 2 weeks early and became my New Years Baby.

oh, he did say he is not pre-fill for Feb, but actually on the list to class up 2/17.

Comment by mn linda (nuke MM ELT Groton CT) on January 5, 2012 at 7:11pm

He requested GC since he's married and they didn't want to have to move.  He said that when he sent in that request, it would put him as a minimum pre-fill for Feb.

I'm glad to at least know since we're trying to plan the 'big' wedding and it's tough when you don't have a date.

My son is the same way.  He's an MM, graduated power school 10/7, requested BS for prototype.  All along he's been saying he'll "probably" go to BS, "probabaly" in Feb.  Hope he gets some definite news soon.

Comment by NavyMomLG on January 5, 2012 at 2:32pm

I'm curious too, MN Linda.  My MM 10/7 grad has been expecting Balston Spa in Feb but no confirmation yet.  Was your son expecting Charleston all along or had he originally been told BS too?

Comment by Connie foaling-lady (Groton) on January 5, 2012 at 1:42pm

MN Linda, did he just get his orders? My son's also MM grad power school 10/7, on hold and waiting ....
