I was one of those "radical" moms who breastfed for a long time.  I think it's OK if you don't. Two of my sisters went to bottles, but it was something my babies and I enjoyed so much and life was just so much easier.  I didn't have to pump since I was at home but my working daughter who pumps loves the nursing too.

My 1st and 3rd babies nursed abou 24 months and my 2nd and 4th nursed about 3 1/2 years.  Of course, older babies only nurse at bedtime, and sometimes naps.  It's not like they don't eat food or drink from a cup.

Bottom line, Heather, is do what feels right for you and your baby.  Every family is different and so is every baby.  The main thing is lots of love and it sounds like that is the least of your worries.  Enjoy this special time b/c it is gone before you know it.  He is so precious!  You're very lucky.

My son leaves for GC on the 21st.  We got him an Ipad 2 for graduation but I didn't spring for the 3G one since I didn't want him to be stuck with another payment.  Is there wireless access at Goose Creek? Is it something they have to pay for?

Here in the midwest the weather is crazy!  We will have 50's and 60's all week in Omaha which is rare in January.  Lovin' it!  I don't mind winter but these momentary lapses into spring-like weather put a smile on everyone's faces.

Heather, make sure you don't use any fragrances on you or your clothes, and use a warm washcloth just before you put Nick to breastfeed, try different holding positions as well. My 1st born only liked to be held on his right side, so that took some getting used to. My 2nd (Sailor) liked to sit up and nurse! My daughter was too busy looking everywhere, so I had to move to a dark room or use a blanket to cover her up, she only nursed until she was 3 months and would then only take a bottle!

He is just adorable, blessings to you!

Connie foaling-lady  My son is a MM as well and just started prototype in GC the 19th of December (on hold since June)  He said it was very difficult to get back up to speed; wished his brain hadn't had so much vacation.  He was also thankful for a long weekend over New Years so he could get in extra study time (10+ hrs daily)...Made me feel fantastic not to worry about New Years drinking for my 21 year old :)

Have a great day, everybody!

Heather, I had the hardest time with breast feeding, and also had a difficult time with the bottle.... finally at 4 weeks started him on Soy Milk Bottle and he was happy as could be.... prior to that,,,, major crying jags everynight!!!!!

our son and dil moved using HelpUMove,,, UPS trailor that they self-loaded/unloaded... were able to get the trailor on base, unhitched from the truck while they unloaded, and picked back up.... relatively the same as PODS I would think

My son flew back to GC yesterday. He found out from his Chief that he will have to move out of the barracks before Powr School graduation. He graduates 2/3/12 & classes up for Prototype 2/20/12 at GC.

Congratulations on such a handsome baby boy, Heather!  The more you can relax while he is little the better.  I was able to breast feed my two boys, but when my daughter came along at just over ten pounds, I couldn't keep up with the demand.  To make it worse, developed mastitis and nursing became a nightmare.  She ended up on formula with a little cereal before she was three months old.  She is now a hair short of six feet, slender as a reed and gorgeous!

Bedtime with your little one is the best time of day.  My first loved to be rocked and sung to sleep, but the second fussed and fidgeted and finally I learned to just put him in the crib and let him get to sleep on his own.  When they're old enough for bedtime stories it becomes even more special.  Wishing you and your little one many happy hours of making memories.
