NancyJo you are SO right...I forgot all about that one. Been a staple in our family for years and years.  AND, if you need more room in the oven, you can even reheat them on the grill :)

There's the mashed potato recipe called "Make Ahead Mashed Potatoes for a Crowd"  I made for Thanksgiving to take to my sisters and it tasted just like fresh spuds even though I made it the day before.  Ten lbs of spuds made enough to feed about 20 people so I think you could adjust.  I found it online but I think it's kind of a common recipe.  Let me know if you want it.

And salad....don't forget the salad! :)

Connie- any room in the barn for them :)

how about twice baked potatoes with the ham and turkey.  They are pretty easy and different than just the plain old baked potato.

Are any of them bringing a dish?  maybe have someone else do that potatoes for 32 people, someone can do a dessert.  One can do rolls.

NavyMomLG, looks like we'll be having a wet Christmas ... soggy saddles ain't no fun ... meanwhile just got voted (by hubby's family) as the go-to place for Christmas Day dinner ... meal for 28 to 32 people in a 1500 square foot house ... hmmm. I CAN do this (she said with a gulp!). Everybody wants to get together for one last Christmas with my dear mother-in-law (cancer). Navy Moms, you helped me this past weekend with vegetarian recipe ideas for my own visiting relatives ... ideas to feed a crowd?? I will do a turkey, a honey spiral ham, good old Campbells green bean casserole, and .... suggestions?? Too bad I can't just feed everyone a bran mash with carrots and sugar cubes!!

Less than 24 hrs and my Sailor will be home for the holidays! I can't wait to see him :)

Connie, can I come on that ride too?  That sounds like the perfect family outing to me, aside from the fact that I am the only one in my family that rides horses!  Your comment immediately made me think of the scene from the movie Stepmom when Susan Sarandon takes her daughter riding in the middle of the night for the first snow fall.  Loved that movie but oh my, I sobbed.

Hello hk....In this situation, Doris is no behind on her mortgage but will not be returning to her residence as she is going to live in assisted living. She does however owe about 70k on a condo that is likely to sell for 50-60k. From reading you rundown, I take it we should talk to the bank about a Deed in Lieu. Would I need a real estate agent or a lawyer specializing in real estate?..... or would it be a contract that I could read over and have her sign?

Comment by hk1853 on December 20, 2011 at 11:33am

How far behind is Doris on her mortgage?

The general options she has is, sell the house, short sale, deed in lieu, foreclosure, repayment plan with forebearance options or modification.  But it seems she only would really consider the first three options.  This is kind of a rundown on what they are.

Short sale is when the “financially distressed” customer sells the property to a third party for less than the outstanding balance.  You have to hire a real estate agent who will help the customer (or you) to negotiate the sales price etc.  It does depend on the investor and their specific requirements.

Deed in Lieu is when a customer voluntarily conveys all the interest in the property to the mortgage holder to satisfy the debt.  This is an generally an option if the alternatives such as a loan modification, or a sale of the property are discussed and rejected.  This is an option for customers who are either experiencing a hardship(e.g. unemployment, ill health) or are facing foreclosure.

Let me know if you have any questions, I can try and help you with whatever I know!

Thanks everyone! It is always nice to have people to share with your issues. This group is such a blessing.

Bunker QB, I don't think we need to worry about being sued. Doris's only family is her 92 year od sister who is also in a nursing home. Neither her or her sister had any children. She has a living trust...pretty cut and dry. She wasn't living off her equity. She stilled owed so much because she decided to move into a new condo 6 years ago at 84 years old. Apparently because she wasn't able to sell her old condo for much money, she financed most of it on a 30 year mortgage. Who would give an 84 year old a 30 year mortgage? Want to know something funny? She left me and my sisters her condo in her trust. hahaha (Thanks!)  She does have over 100k total net worth. What she doesn't realize is that after we prepay for her funeral, and sell her condo, she will be lucky if she has enough money to stay in assisted living for one year. We don't tell her that though. Why make her worry since there is nothing she can do about it. The first month that we took over paying her bills, we found many had gone to collections. She had been neglecting paying bills. It wasn't because she couldn't afford them, it was confusing to her. She should have had us helping her long ago. You can't do that kind of thing for someone until they are ready. She is so much happier now. I think she feels the burden has been lifted.

Dor, thanks for your input. I must sayl I was surprised at the differences in Nursing home care. Doris had picked her first rehab center based on the fact that her sister had been there before. It was awful. She was there for a full week when we realized they hadn't changed her bandages from her blood clot removal (embolism?)surgery on her leg.  They also hadn't been giving her adequite doses of cumadin(?) We found this out when  2 weeks into her stay, she ws taken to the hopital with extremley low blood pressure. Turns out her leg was infected and her cumadin levels were no where near what they should have been if she had been receiving it as prescribed. Needless to say, she did not go back to that care facility. We spoke with the hospital social worker (who was very helpful) and research on line an got her into a much better facility. Still room for improvement with the attitudes of some of the employees. They can be very disrespectful to the elderly.

Wish me luck, at work we are starting a new computer program and we are going in cold turkey like we always do. No training. Ought to be  interesting the first couple days.I talk to you all soon if I don't have a nervous breakdown before then.lol
