Kimberly0823 - I would wait to send any kind of care package until you get his actual address.  He will have an address similar to this:  FN Last Name, First, MI - Class: INDOC (Indoctrination) - 101 NNPTC Circle - Goose Creek, SC 29445.  The package would eventually get to him, but it could take a while.  I would rather be safe and wait.

Once he gets out of INDOC his address will change again and he will be assigned a Class.  My son's class is 1136M.  Your son will most likely get one similar once out of INDOC.

Hope this helps.

I sent my first care package yesterday and I sent some snapshot size frames with pictures of family and friends and those command picture hanging hooks. I hope he can have those, I thought one of you said on your Skype tour your son had a poster hanging. I also sent a huge package of vitamin c drops and Halloween candy. I got some good ideas off here and am going to have to start my next box soon.

Thank you so much for all your posts. I am not alone. One more thing that I wanted to share. Being a Navy mom trains you to deal with anything! Even Cancer! In my mind I pretended I was in Breast Cancer Boot Camp. I had to be strong, brave, and positive just like our sons and daughters must be. I even thought of the MRI as my little submarine. If my son could do it so could I. Trust me the Navy changed my thinking and that is a true gift! So when we are having a hard day, remember what our sailors have to endure!

Thank you for all the great stories and inspiration. My son will arrive at GC on October 8th. I can send a care package BEFORE then and it will find its way to him timely? Or should I wait til I have HIS address?

seems like they really step up for each other, my son said when he arrived Wed night late he was approached by a "Civy" so he thought and it turned out to be i believe he said the commander master chief whom said son, "im going to call for your pickup b/c they will answer that phone for me asap where as you it maybe a wait.  How cool and nice was that!   Then he was starving so the van pulled thru the drive thru at McD's-  Sure didnt happen like this at BC.

So I have a quirky care package story.  It seems that after arriving in GC, my son was hanging out with some friends and they went into JoAnn Etc to poke around.  There were some "older" (mind you, that could mean 40!) women knitting in the store and my son sat down with them and they taught him.  So now, he has been knitting hats as a stress relief/boredom buster.  Last week I sent a box to him with some Easy Mac, a couple bags of Halloween candy, a magazine, and a skein of yarn.  When I asked him if he got the box, he said yes, and the yarn is awesome!  I guess they each need something different!  He has never asked for anything because he feels that what the Navy issues him is just fine (clothing, bedding, etc).  I will say though that the first aid and cold/pain relief ideas are excellent because they do have to walk aways to the mini-Nex, and after a long day of classes and not feeling well, it's nice to have those on hand.

Wow you guys have a wealth of info already,Love any ideas can get about care packages and foods and Sunny what a great idea w/the microwave rice cooker

my son has alwasy been a picky eater but he will eat rice and soups Beef jerky and Chicken wings ha. J's mom thx for clarifying the address so now i can give that out , Any clue if they get there mail daily pickup or just certain days?

Connie im glad your son didnt get his wisdom teeth out in BC!  Heard some horror stories on that, one girl had her nerves severed where she had to go home have surgery and has lost feeling in her face permanetly!

MNMom im going to look into the Arimidex vs Tamoxifen which has hit me w/side effects but mostly the weight gain but guess all come with some quirks.

also still side effects from the surgeries that drive me nuts and getting use to a changed "look" oh well could be way worse.

Keep those great ideas coming on care packages and needs your sailors have requested Im totally green still!

Sunnyb - Good idea!  I've been meaning to send B another care package.  That sounds like a great thing to have in his room.

B has asked for microwave type meals - have you tried any of them?  I don't want to send them if they don't taste very good.

Have an awesome day!

About sending care packages, a few things that I sent my son that really blessed him was a big ziplock back of assorted granola bars. They made good meals on the run when he was busy. Also I found a microwave rice pot at Wal-Mart near the microwaves. It's like a micro. coffee mug only bigger. I sent those instant Knorr noodles that are so popular now. We tried it at home first, and we could cook pretty much anything in it from rice, noodles, soup, leftovers. It was pretty handy because it was just a mid size pot with a lid. And it was only 8 bucks. I got one for my other college student too. He said it was great for when he missed supper and everything was closed and he was starving for something more than snacks.
