Pylfer,

I would suggest searching the N4M's site for a group of moms up there in your son's area...or search on a different group (specifically for that location) and see what you find....there's also the RESCUE LIST...of Navy moms just waiting to help.  Good luck.  Camping isn't bad when the weather is good...but it will get old....

Lisa - He's coming home just for the weekend.  He's leaving after school on Friday and getting back Monday afternoon.

Thanks Emily and Kathryn56.  That's good to know.  He got a chit approved, but another mom asked me over the weekend if it affected his leave after graduation from A School.  I didn't think it did - my son would've said something like that to me.

And I can't remember who it was who was asking about apartments in Silverdale, Washington. But for who it was, my brother and his wife found a good one bedroom apartment in the Madison at the Wellington. :)

Mama C- He just needs to get a chit approved. Aaron came home for 4th of July weekend, and he just had to get "special liberty" approved. Basically to go outside of the limits...

Prototype is a lil different. He came home for my graduation on Memorial Day weekend, and because he told them he was flying, they made him take leave so the days counted against is leave count. If he would have lied and said he was driving, he wouldn't have had to. Apparently the rule is there, if you can drive it you don't have to take leave. Or at least that's what he was told.

MamaC, when our daughter was in A school she got a chit to come home for Easter weekend.  They can get leave for weekends, just not during school time. It did not affect her leave after A school. Hope this helps.

pylfer, my son is in saratago springs.  One of his 2 roommates just flunked out of proto and should be leaving in week.  My son can check with them to see if it's ok for your son to stay with them a while.  He is home now but will be back in NY tomorrow late afternoon/early evening.  The couch would be open.  My son's 2 roommates are pretty messy so the common rooms aren't too neat.  They are renting a house.  Let me know if your son is interested.

Mama C, I didn't think they were allowed leave during A School. My son had to come home for a death in the family during A School, and it set him back. They weren't allowed to miss even a single day.

Question, completely off the subject of hurricanes and stuff.  Someone asked me yesterday how it works when your sailor puts in for a travel chit, say for this weekend, does that affect their leave after A School?  If they come home now for a couple of days, do they get a shorter leave later on?

Years ago, my husband fresh out of school, got a job in Florida and had to start right away. I had to stay behind and pack up the house, take care of accounts and what not. We couldn't afford 1st and last months rent and security deposit on top of our current rent. He ended up living in a camp ground in a tent for a month. He got the apartment a few days before I drove down  with our son and all of our belongings. We look back on it as one of our many adventures.

Pylfer, your son should definitely try to find someone to let him stay with them. But if he doesn't , he will be just fine camping until then.  It just won't be convenient. He is young. He can do it!

Pylfer, that is a long to be camping.  Especially since I am guessing he needs to not look a bit scruffy--which is what we look like after a few days of camping, even with showers.  Maybe he can ask around to see if he can sleep on someone's couch; maybe a few someone's couches, alternating?
