haha Emily I totally know what you mean....theoretically with the military it is very possible to be set......a lot of expenses covered, but you also have to save! :)

Mommajo, he graduates power school Aug. 12. He didn't make his July 23, 2010 PIR date, so he's a bit behind everyone else who got to BC when he did. (Nasty ruptured appendix.)

I did tell Aaron that we weren't getting married until he was financially set because that's the only thing that worries me about being married (Especially young). He told me with the military we have nothing to worry about, but he also agreed to start saving more of his paycheck. :)

Dan's mom~when does (did) your son graduate power school?

Michimom~Your son entered about 2 weeks after my son...wondering what the next 5 years will be!  Is he set to graduate power school in June?

RAP program was not available in December; maybe new quotas for a new year?

I've been telling my boyfriend about what you all are saying about the money.....hopefully he'll be smart up front with his money, and he'll be sitting really nice down the line!! haha

Well, today is the official one-year anniversary of my son being in the Navy.  One year since he flew from Detroit to Chicago for boot camp.  Yes, it does seem like one year, but not in a bad way.  It’s really kind of bittersweet:  I really miss him being here at home, but I am so happy for him that he has chosen this path to do something he really wants to do.  And—most importantly--he likes it!  (Reminds me of that old Life cereal commercial, for those moms who are old enough to remember.  “Hey, Mikey, he likes it!”  :D )  He says it doesn’t seem like a year to him.

When I mentioned this to my daughter, she was very sweet.  She just smiled at me and said, “You are such a mom!”  Well, of course!

Aaron never seemed to have any money either. He would pay off his bills and go out for a weekend and then complain he was broke and couldn't even afford to go get food until his next paycheck. Right now he's sitting pretty good because A. His dad got one of his loans deferred so now Aaron isn't sending him money. B. He's getting BAH. C. He got 1/3 of his bonus (although I'm sure most of that is gone by now. He paid of his credit cards, bought a new TV, bought a ring, etc.).

I don't know how my cousin did it... He's a Marine and has been in for just about 6 years, I believe. But he is sitting VERY nice. He has so much saved up, that he's added our grandma to his account so that once grandpa is gone (He's been battling cancer and for awhile it looked as if he wasn't going to make it to Christmas or if he did it would be his last one), she has enough to live off of. He decided to take personal responsibility for her and that just made my heart melt.

And my brother had enough money that he had nothing else to spend on that he bought me a car (no complaining here).

So honestly, I don't know when it starts to make them money. haha. I've seen both sides of the fence. :P

Quilt-my son had planned on working at the recruiting office so he could stay home longer between A  School & Power School--- But-- they weren't doing the work at the recruiting office in this area at that time. He wanted his truck left at home so he could drive it while on leave(and during the time he would have been working at the recruiting office). He flew home and drove his truck to SC. anyway, yes it makes more sense to keep his car home for him and I hope the recruiting thing works out for your son.

If my son wants a car to drive when he comes home to visit and I have driven his car to SC... he can rent a car for his own use while he is here! I really don't want to drive his car to SC until after A school is over and his "time" between has been determined. He says that it's possible he can extend his "time" from 10 days to several weeks if he works for the Recruiting office, wouldn't it make more sense if his car was still here and then he could drive it back?  Now of course I have to wait for the flooding to clear up between here in TEXAS and GC/SC... I really don't want to drive by myself all that way!
