Leiland, you won't need to bring anything to PIR, as they can't have ANY of their stuff until they are off RTC property.  That's why we had to pass it off at the airport....Our sailor enjoyed using his laptop and cell phone at the hotel room after PIR but couldn't take it back onto RTC property.

I would bring cell phone, laptop and their cords, and music/Ipod/etc.  Just remember it will be a CARRY ON bag.  No liquids, lotions, gels, etc. over 3 oz. size.  I should have had my son's electric razor and cord, because he asked for that right away in Goose Creek!  Since he missed Easter, we threw in a bag of Cadbury eggs, (solid chocolate)  :)

Leiland, when he gets to Goose Creek he will have some time during the first weekend or two that he can go to the mall and the NEX to pick up some things.  My son got a pillow, his own sheets and comforter (he is very particular about his bedding), and other personal items.  He just bought himself a matress pad this last weekend because the mattresses in the rooms for Power School are harder than the ones for A school.  His electronics are really the only thing he will really be wanting right away, or needing, when you give him stuff at the airport.

Leiland - we brought my sailor his phone, some candy for the plane, and some other personal items. A lot of people also pass off laptop, etc at that time, too. He won't need civilian clothes for more than month after grad so no need to pack all of that up yet!

Thanks to all of you for some clarity on the "Grad & Go".  What about the $8 backpacks?  Should I be bringing my SR's belongings to PIR?  At this point, I have heard very little from him, just his first week or so, and I am sure to hear more this week.  What should I bring?  Cell, laptop and power supplies?  Anything else?

Connie, sorry about your mare, will add your new little filly to my prayers.

p.s. and Kat, I'm so sad to hear about the injury, and hope your sailor will be a good patient and somehow get everything done...prayers for him, too.

Connie,  so sorry about your news.  heartbreaking!  keeping your little filly and all the Power School sailors with tests in my prayers tonight...

Connie, I grew up on a farm too, and I do understand how you are feeling.  Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers too.

My son has the big test tomorrow so definately saying even more prayers that they all do well.  He says the MM's do very well on this part because they learned a lot of it in A school, so hoping that is true.  But the ETs and EMs will get their turn later on with materials they already learned that the MMs haven't.

Prayers for all to do well on Power school exam.  Also for your orphan filly and your heart Connie to be comforted.  I grew up on a dairy farm, and know the heart  ache of losing an animal that is like family member.

Leiland, unfortunately there is really no way to predict this! My boyfriend had PIR 4/15 and he had originally said he was leaving for the airport at 2am Saturday, but told me on Friday at grad that he actually wasn't leaving until the same time Sunday! There were about 40 NUKEs that flew out at this time as well. And like swim4life said, we bought him an all black backpack from the NEX off base, I think it was $8.. I gave it to him when we met at the airport. My NUKE didn't know at the time of his battlestation call because the call came Tuesday and his travel meeting was Thursday! Hopefully you get that extra time :)
