My son is 22 so he understands the "underage drinking and contributing" thing.

NAvyMomL yes, I think it was the same group.  And when I said he was non chalant, I just meant he wanted to see if he could get a rise out of me by telling me he had captain's mast. Well, after the smelling salts and convulsions I was having stopped, I wished he was close enough to boot!  He knew by saying it it would get a reation out of me and his dad, an old salty sailor himself, popped outta his chair and echoed my "WHAT???"  He does know the rules and takes his position in the US Navy Nuke program and being part of the US Navy veeerrrrrry seriously.  He is 3rd generation Navy, 12 generation US Military on my side.  and only 3 generation US citizen on his Dad's side but also 3rd generation Military.  He knows... trust me he knows.  He said that is one reason he is very mindful of the under 21"s he hangs out with.

Wow!  I'm going to have to save these stories and send them to my son who hopefully be flying to GC a week from today.  I'm waiting by the phone now hoping for the I'm a sailor now!  call.  Thanks for all the valuable information that I have been soaking up here while he has been in boot camp.  You'all are great.

Oh dear lord. If the text at 1600 ever says "I had/have to go to Captains Mast" without any explanation, I may very well have a heart attack right there.

They like to put the fear of God into the sailors a lot... The brief that really got Aaron during Indoc was the texting and driving brief. He came back that day terrified that I was going to die and made me promise to never text and drive again.

I think my personal favorite brief was the Family Planning... He came back from it and the text read: "They handed out condoms to us today" I about died laughing. :)

My son told me that 16 or so sailors were kicked out recently for underage drinking - must have been that same group.  His nonchalance was more "... they were stupid, they deserved it... the rules are clear, just follow the rules...".  Still a shame for those kids, they are still learning how to live on their own and come from a society where many rules are not enforced.  Tough lesson.
Comment by BunkerQB on February 8, 2011 at 4:29pm
@DramaboysMom, it's OK that the little turd is nonchalant as long as he does not misbehave, drink and think he can get away with it. If he does, he'll be kicked out on his ASS fast. It does make a normally reasonable mom want to pull her hair out. Shortly of that, here's a glass of my newly discovered favorite Merlot (Ghost Pines 2008). LOL.

OK Here's a goodie... got a 2 hour call from my son on Friday eve.  He was on the last day of Indoc, started classes yesterday ( Monday)  But on Friday he said,  " well, mom, I had to go to captain's mast today."  WHAT?? WHAT???  " yep it was a non-mandatory-Required".  Sounds like an oxymoron to me... What he said was his class, 1118, had to go to Mast for a "chat" to put the fear of God into the sailors.  Apparently there was some underage drinking in another group ( I don't know if they were A school or what but they had gone to a concert off base on a weekend) and they wanted to make sure the A school class 1118 understood that

 1) if you are over 21, your life will be miserable if you contribute, and

 2) if you are under 21, your life will be miserable if you imbibe.

The little turd was so non chalant about it, {sacastically} "Yeah, mom. had to go to captain's mast.  the entire group did... not pleasant.. etc etc"

THIS is why I am DRAMA BOYS MOM!!!  Arrrrgh ~!

I guess our sailors all had good company over at the Rickover.  My sailor said he had 7 hours to put in on Sunday and I don't think he watched the game either.

Connie- Sounds like Amanda is awfully excited about the trip! She's lucky... I never even got to make it down there for Aaron's A school grad.! It'll make Power School grad. even more special. :)
