NavyMomLG I agree too.. My bf had already told his two close friends that hey if your gonna break the rules I'm going to have to say something because this is my job too.. and his friends felt the same way so I guess its just who they choose to hang out with

I don't disagree that these kids feel they are between a rock and a hard place - but they are only there because a "friend" is breaking a rule and putting them in that position.  Maybe not worth the friendship.  Stepping off my soap box now.

Yeah my sailor realized hes just going to have a avoid those nights where some sailors want to go out and have fun just so he can avoid the problem all together.

But I am glad 200+ sailors got to watch the captian mast because i'm sure it will scare some sailors straight so they dont make that mistake.

Christina - don't get a lot of details from my son, but he said he used TurboTax.  I had reminded him where to find his W2, and told him about the Voluntary Income Tax Assistance on base - someone else had mentioned that on here.

Navy Mom LG.  Hurray for your son who has his student loan paid off!  Mine is working on that part.

And as to the "you better tell if you see it", my son last night, that it puts the kids between a rock and a hard spot.  As Mary said, its a risk of friends and ridicule, honesty and integrity, and doing the right thing. His comment was "we are supposed to watch out for our fellow sailors, but they make it a catch 22. If you tell, then you get in trouble for being in the situation whether you were a participant, observer or just had knowledge.  If you don't tell, then you get in trouble for having knowledge that you DIDN'T share.  Mom, it's a lose, lose, situation.  Makes it hard to keep a big circle of friends if they flog you for everything you do."

Just feel for these young men and women who are trying to live up to what is expected of them.  Be their sounding boards and their distant strength.

Where did your son do his taxes at or did he do it online? My bf is debating on what to do with that this year
Comment by NavyMomLG on February 9, 2011 at 12:33pm
Back to an older topic - taxes.  Just had to jump on and comment that my son texted me last night to let me know he had finished his, and had paid off his student loan as well.  I had passed on some helpful tips many of you had provided, which helped him complete his tax return so quickly.  Thank you!!!

So I finally got caught up on the post and my bf is in the class with some of the kids from the underage capt. mast... heard that whole story so many times because its not that they just punished the people drinking but pretty much anyone that stopped by the party was. Thankfully my bf and 2 of his close friends came home for the night and didnt stop by like they probably would have if they were there.

Pretty much the moral of the whole mast is to make sure you report anything your sailor sees that involves another sailor breaking rules. Because it they get caught they will find out who else knew about it and you'll be in just as much trouble for just seeing something. And i dont know if it was said but only one got kicked out (I believe that his grades weren't that great) and the other 16 are on mil div for a couple months.

I haven't been on for awhile, but came in on a very interesting topic.  Thank you for the insight.  I'll be sure to share with my sailor.
