There will be so many Nukes flying out on Christmas that it won't be hard to find someone to split a cab with... Or catch a ride with for that matter!
Have your son ask around his class/others to find someone else going to the airport. And if he has no luck, he can call his own cab. However, I'm sure if he just goes to the mininex parking lot there will be 10+ cabs already waiting to pick Nukes up! :)

...When I got off the plane at 530 on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, I couldn't believe the amount of sailors (in uniform) waiting for flights. There was easily 50 there, and that was a short weekend! I bet on the 17th/18th there will be at least 100-200 per day waiting for flights at any one time!

NukeMom, my son is an MM in A school, class 1102A. He should be done in January.

Kat, I've learned from this group that there are a LOT of nukes who weren't too motivated in high school who seem to have come into their own in nuke school. For my son, it's like he now has "seen the light"--I think because this is something he himself decided on and it's something he's very interested in. I also hope this continues through power school and prototype, but I don't have any reason to think it won't. Although it sounds like the classes will get harder. A lot of the nukes are real gamers, too. Mine loves Halo, but not WoW.

Also, Kat, my son has taken a cab to the airport, and has gotten a ride back (only flew home once, for a family funeral). With so many flying out for the holidays, yours may not have too much trouble getting a ride from a fellow nuke. Just my guess.

Dor - I feel for you with the kittens climbing up the Christmas tree. Have been there, done that many times. Fortunately, this year the cats aren't climbing it, but man do they love to lay under it. I swear the love Christmas time so they get their tree up. What is it about laying under a tree?

In reply to all of you who's sons were not motivated in high school and are doing wonderful things now, THANK YOU. I am not alone. We always knew he was brilliant but he just lost any motivation in high school. He hated the high school scene and social life. he also hated the college scene, except the party aspect of it. He just started his A school last week. They had their first exam in the math this week on Tuesday, and he said he got the highest score in the class. Yes, is this finally the motivation that will get him going? I am praying that it is. He is definately psyched for it. Hope he can hold on to that feeling throughout all of the schools.

On another note, does anyone know what transportation is available from base ot the airport? I thought I read that the airport was only about 15 minutes away, is that correct? Is there a shuttle so those leaving on the 17th and 18th can get to the airport in time, or do they have to use taxis? And what about when they go back? is there transportation available or is it all taxis?

Michimom- is your son in A school or Power School? I"m wondering when Math Honorman is awarded. My son got BM Honorman and is getting close to the end of A school - he's trying to be overall Honorman. He is GREAT in math so if he doesn't win that, I'll be really surprised.

Hey ladies! I'm not new to Navy for Mom's, I just haven't been on here in a long time. But I decided to come back :). My sailor is currently on Ttrack. He's a watch sup until Tuesday. He's scheduled to class up for Power School in January. I'm nervous for that! He'll be home for Christmas on the 17th :) I can't wait. As of now, our plan is to get married after Prototype. I'm in college in Missouri right now. I can't wait to begin our married life together :). Please feel free to add me on here. I love making new friends who understand military life!

Lala the Ribbon Queen is one of my friends also. She is one of the Oreo Sash Sistahs if you look for that group, also. My son was in her sailor's PIR group (even though my son ended up not PIR'ing with his division).

Skyped last night for the very first time with my son. So, so nice to see him while we're chatting. And hubby resisted getting a webcam saying we could just talk on the phone. I think he's hooked on it now, though. All of us got to chat at once. We even held the dogs up to the camera, but fat lot of good that did. They just looked around at everything but the camera and paid no attention at all to that young man on the computer. As he put it, if they could smell his scent, that would be a whole different matter.

And . . . gotta brag. He's earned the honor of getting a new nametag with the NNPTC logo on it with Mathematics Honorman. He got the highest grade in math, so now he is recognized as the big math geek (we knew that already, of course). This is especially great since there wasn't much at all to brag about for him academically in high school He had the brains, but not the motivation. So, so different for something he's really motivated about! :)
