Yea Aaronsgirl... but you're still young and you don't have to share his time with the game because you guys are apart at the moment... Wait till you're visiting for a well deserved weekend and he sits in front of the new game all the time. :)

Well, moms. I just ordered Aaron's Christmas present. A copy of the new WoW extension pack that comes out on December 7th. It's all set up for him to go pick it up next week. At this point, I think I'm a little crazy. I'm feeding his WoW obsession!! :/

Its crazy how similar your guys seem to be to my son. I could have written the same words as Penny and Mary did to describe their sons. I am hoping that my guy finds the same motivation and rewards that yours have at A school. He has PIR in 2 days and I am getting really excited to see him and hug him... then he's off, Grad and Go to GC. My husband saw him at Thanksgiving and said he seemed really happy and content with his decision to join the Navy. That's all I want for him, to find a purpose in life and go after it. Thanks to everyone for their great advice and encouragement over the past 8 weeks of BC!

Its so nice to have you back, Casey. :)
...And its looking good for him because he's kicking Prototype's butt!!

Actually, MMs will probably be at least the 18 months if not longer. Since there's so many of them, there's quite the back up for Prototype.. So even though they're A school is shorter, they're schooling will take just as long (if not longer).

Maybeth, when I read that your son is under the sea somewhere, all I could think of was the song Under the Sea from the Little Mermaid: "Darling, it's better, down where it's wetter . . . " It fits, but . . . it doesn't. LOL

There are just so many variables in all of this. Good to get all this info. and to expect the unexpected.
I know at one point my son was talking about some other type of school too, so who knows where it all will go. Just wait and see for now.
Comment by TN Navy Mom (Stennis Nuke Mom) on November 30, 2010 at 7:07pm
My MM graduated A school 10/1 and is still on T Track, should class up in January. With holidays, stand down, etc, it is almost impossible to guess when they'll class up or graduate from each phase of schooling. But, if classes start mid January, he should graduate in July. Then of course, the "grad hold" for prototype and by then it's anybody's guess how long that would be, weeks or months? So, having classed up in June to A school, it will be at least 18 months to complete Nuke classes and he's an MM.

I just talk to him as often as he's available (he's married) and look forward to the times that I am able to see him. He was home for several days after A school grad and will be home 12/18 for 8 days (since he's T Track, he has to report back on 12/27, doesn't get the full stand down time.

Lisa, i think the recruiters told us 18 months just in case they did the ET or EM. Yours and mine are MM so it's about 3 months shorter over all.
I was a bit surprsied when he told me that as I was fully expecting the 18 months. i guess when they had that briefing type thing during boot camp, they explained more about each job and the responsibilities, which is how they decided which area they wanted to go into.

Thanks again for all of your response - yes, I know that every single kid "chosen" for Nuke School is the elite of the elite - the best of the best. My son also wasn't out doing the drinking and smoking thing and opted instead for staying at home and playing on his computer or watching videos or sitcoms. He's a computer geek in so many ways but yet has a personality that just gets along well with everybody. He's a mentor at heart and has tutored many kids coming in behind him into the recruiting station. One day he came home and announced that they made him Chief Recruit Petty Officer. He was pretty proud but without arrogance.

I'm with Marybeth - everywhere you look you just don't really get the same answer with regard to school schedules. But so far I have found so many other women on this site that aren't hesitate to let everybody know what they have learned and it has been so helpful. I'm starting to find myself less emotional as well.

Thanks again!
