Lisa, I know what you mean. I struggled with it, and actually I did include a few treasts when I sent him his laptop, phone and clothes. It does make a mom feel good. You know, even though he has his own money, I still slipped a $20 into the Thanksgiving card I sent him. Some things never change.

Aaronsgirl - we need to find out how to get those NEX gift cards. That would be great for gift giving.

When my son was still in boot camp and I was so excited about getting to send a goodies care pkg to A school, my fiance gave me a hard time - "don't you know they have a NEX there?...don't you know they have a mess hall there?...they really do feed them, you know" - so when my son specifically requested ramen and easy mac (and a bowl and fork/spoon), I just smiled (well, kinda smirked) and went to the store. I know he can get them there, maybe he was just trying to make me feel good by requesting them...confession - mom (aka me) has been having a hard time with the 'not needed' any more. Working on it tho!

And thank you Mary for answering my question. :)
She has one, but it's quite old and is falling apart. It only has one handle now :(
I ended up just texting her and telling her that "someone' wants to know what size crockpot she has. :)

He probably gets his junk food at the mininex. :)
Or is getting a ride to Walmart with someone..
My guess is the MiniNex. Or walking like a mile and a half to the big nex.
The MiniNex is super close to their barracks (right next to the famous Subway). Aaron always goes there to get pop and snacks for his room.
I've heard you can buy giftcards for the Nex online and have them sent to him. :)
...He can use the Nex to buy school supplies, ship packages, buy food, purchase video games... Just about anything. :)

my son has somehow managed to get to a store and buy his own junk food to have in his room. I was going to send a package, like you all are doing, but when we finally Skyped with him on Thanksgiving he was showing us the pop tarts, cheez its, potato chips, Arizona Sweet Tea, etc. that he has bought, so there must be fairly easy access for him to get stuff and bring it back.
I figured I'd just send him a $20 every now and then and he can use that to go buy what he wants rather than spending so much on postage. I know, i do take away some of the joy of sending him stuff, but I'm trying to be frugal. ha. A lot of good that is doing me this time of year.

No problem - I have a friend named Linda from highschool, so we've been called each other's names for a long, long, time.
Hah, changing to Emily wouldn't help me anyway, since that's my daughter's name, LOL!

Aw man. It was Lisa! Not Linda :(
I'm so sorry! My computer screen is broke. :(
But I know there are a couple of other moms here with sons named Aaron.. I've thought about changing my name to Emily since several other girlfriends/wives know that anyways from Facebook. But I like the sound of aaronsgirl. :)

Aaron's girl - too funny! Yeah, this guy wasn't very friendly, but hey, I was on a mission, so, chalk it up to lesson learned, I guess. I used their large priority box and a large flat rate box...just annoying to have to go out and unpack his shoes, clothes, and the food, in the lobby and then re-pack it all.
On another note, your comments always catch my eye, too, since my son's name is Aaron...(:

Hey moms! I found a 5 quart slow cooker on Walmart.com for $16.
1. Is that a pretty standard size? My mom wants one for Christmas, and I want to make sure its the right size!
2. That's a decent price, isn't it?
Comment by Emily-aaronsgirl11 on November 29, 2010 at 3:10pm
Linda- Eeek. Very expensive Ramen Noodles! haha.
I'm not a big fan of the flat rate boxes. Sure, they're great if you're shipping something square or rectangular, heavy, and small. But if you're shipping anything lightweight, it's a waste. I tend to use their priority mail boxes instead. The post office here in town is super nice. They'll help me pick a box, tape it up, and send it out. Without them, I'm not sure Aaron would receive any packages!
... Heck. I was afraid to buy stamps when he was in boot camp. :)
