Hi Lisa. You are too kind. I don't know if I have a lot of info, I just ask a lot of questions. My son gets mad at me for asking so many questions sometimes, but hey, what are mom's for. He always gave me a lot of great details in his letters home from bootcamp too, even drew me a picture of their compartment.
He was in division 363. I know he said he went to Thanksgiving dinner at a Petty Officer's house with another guy from his class, who was in division 361. That wasn't your son was it?
One of the mom's from his bootcamp division , who's son is also a MM started a forum for our class. Not sure if it will take off, but you can check in on it if you like.

Yes, I'm a little disappointed, for him, that he can't wear his uniform on the plane. He was hoping for an upgrade to first class, plus he really does like it when people acknowledge his service and i think all of them deserve that and so much more.

nvmomma - welcome to the group! fyi, Kat has been a great resource for me, too. Even tho our sons went through BC together and are in the same class at Nuke school, I've learned more about what's happening with them from her than I have from my son!

Hey Kat, our son's are in the same class! Think I'll have to update my name to reflect that, too! btw, did we meet at the M&G right before PIR, at Anastasia's? My son was told the same as yours about not wearing the uniform when flying. I was disappointed, too - so wanted to see him get off that plane @ Christmas wearing the uniform!

for the new Nuke members, check this group on N4M to get some idea of what they will be talking about with phasing up and what they are allowed to do.

@Kat - thanks for the welcome & all the good info! Those are all the same things my sailor will struggle with too...
@NukeMom - my son is in ship 9, div 10; he is an ET. I just joined all my groups this week, inc. the PIR 12/3/10 group. I think I've seen your name...we're landing @ OHare @ 4pm, may not make it in time for the meet&greet :(

Hi Everyone;
Wow, it has been a long time (seems like it) since I've been on the site. I am now working two jobs (that's seven days a week). Keeps me so very busy. I stopped by to share our good news. Ohe sailor got the news that he made E6. It was eight years on the 13th of this month. My how the time has gone.
The storm that hit us last week took our power out for six and a half days. Gads that was tough. I'll try to keep in better contact. ~S~

@Kat, Thanks for the info about what to expect the first couple weeks. I think my son thinks he will just be hanging around waiting for stand down, then comes home for Christmas. I'm sure he will be quite busy those 2 weeks before stand down with the orientation and such. He's hoping to start classes as soon as stand down is over. My son is MM also.
@nvmomma, do you know what your son's rate is? Will you be at meet & greet on Thrusday? Are you a member of our PIR group? Don't remember seeing you on there.

welcome nvmomma. My son PIR'd on Nov. 5 and got to Goose Creek for Nuke school on Nov. 10. since Nov. 11 was Veteran's day, they had the day off and got to go shopping. things really kicked into gear the following week with indoctrination, or orientation into the school, programs, benefits, etc. All of the stuff they needed to know. they also had a lot of inspections and PT and PFA that week. last week he started classes. He's a Machinist Mate. Started with math and tools classes. Classes are running 6:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. then off until 6 p.m. and back to mandatory study time from 6-9 p.m. this week they are also adding in 3 PT's as a group and they also have to do 2 PT's a week individually, plus he has to do 12 hours of watch training in the next week or two.
So he will hit the ground running. It seems to be a very full schedule, but the classes aren't too bad at first. It's a bit of an adjustment for a kid who used to resally thrive on his relaxing time, ha. He actually said the other day that he misses bootcamp because there every minute of your day was planned, you were told what to do and when, and there was no time or space to think about anything else. he says now there are too many distractions, like computers and cell phones and shopping. ha. Guess he will catch on to self discipline eventually.
Have a great time at PIR on Friday, if you are going. It is a very special time. I still can't believe we are almost a month past PIR already.
