My son is going to an instructor's house. It is part of a program that they have.

Question for you... if my son were to bring his bike to GC where would he keep it? Do they have protected storage areas or would he have to lock it in a bike rack? I am getting the feeling that if he won't have a car there he may want his bike. What's the scoop? Thanks!

sounds good -- I was wondering how you could have sent him anything traditional for a Thanksgiving meal -- because I would love to do that.

does anyone know if they get turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy for Thanksgiving?

Elizabeth, you are not alone in the serious deficit in the responsibility of many things arena. ha.
We are Catholic, well, my children and I are. My son has never really showed a lot of interest in religion, so I did think it was neat when he actually requested a saint medallion. Maybe he's been doing some thinking.

I'm loving the comments about the Saints. I was raised Catholic and Saints have always fasinated me. My Mom gave my son a Saint Christopher's medal and I have an Irish Celtic cross that belonged to my son's dad. I am currently suffering from an internal debate as to whether I should chance giving it to him on his 21st birthday. He has shown a serious deficit in the responsibility of personal belongings arena.

Hi Jeanne. Thanks for that info. As I've done some searching online tonight i realize that there really isn't an "official" patron saint for the Navy, but many different saints that certainly can cover the needs of the sailor. It's awesome.
Actually, my dad called me tonight and I was telling him how my son was requestion the religious medallion for Christmas. He said he was already going to write my son a letter and ask him if he wanted my Dad's St. Christopher medallion that he had when he was in boot camp 55 years ago, and it has already been blessed. I think that would be very special for my son and I know my dad is just proud as can be of him so it would mean a lot to him too.
Looks like we've got it covered.

I found this: St. Brendan is the declared patron of boatmen; mariners; sailors; travelers; navigators;whales; the diocese of Clonfert; and the diocese of Kerry. While perhaps not an official patron of the US Navy, he is in everything but name.

It looks like there are several patron saints for the Navy. My son must have heard about St. Brendan and ask for that one for Christmas.
Comment by elizabeth77(USS SAN FRANCISCO) on November 16, 2010 at 8:45pm
I thought the Patron Saint of sailors was St. Christopher.
