Well fortunately for us we have the Thanksgiving day visit so hopefully we can figure it out then. I hope to do the same thing that you did and hang with him while he waits for his plane. How did you know where to go to find him at O'hare and how did you get in?

Alex flew out of OHare but did not know that would be the airport until the day before. And while he had to be there at 2 am, his flight wasnt scheduled to leave until 4 in the afternoon. They had kids leaving out on 6 or 7 different flights heading for GC that day.

Hi- my son just pir'd last fri, 11/12. He was grad n go, and left from o'hare. Wish I knew in advance... I would have stayed there too. Although we were sad to see him whisked away so soon, but we all had one amazing day together walking around downtown Chicago and listening to his bc stories, and just seeing our son again. Just a magical day together. Don't dwell on the short time, but enjoy every blessed minute you have together. Yes, it is fast, just make it a day of treasured memories. Oh, and don't forget, you get to phone and text again after they arrive at gc!!!

thanks gals. Pat, I used to live in Wheaton... I was just trying to figure out the logistics... If there was a chance it was Midway I wasn't going to plan much. if there's a good chance it was O'Hare then we'll stay at the O'hare Hilton since my husband is a Hilton traveler and we can use his points... This is crazy planning for one day... 24 hours! But we'll do it that's for sure. Maybe we'll stay up near the base Thursday and then move over to O'Hare after we drop him off at the base that evening. Then we will at least be closer to Midway if that's what happens. He wants us to bring his phone, laptop and ipod to the airport so he can take it with him.

Julsburd, DO NOT make a reservation for a hotel near Midway. We live in the Chicago area, trust me, that is not an area you want to be!

Julsburd, Our son flew out of Ohare. Usually they get their final travel orders the Weds. before PIR. If you go to the airport, you can get a special security pass and go to the gate with him.
Comment by mn linda (nuke MM ELT Groton CT) on November 16, 2010 at 12:04am
maybe you could make reservations at 2 hotels -- one by each airport and then cancel one after you find out what airport he's flying out of.

Oh yes, and I don't think he really knew until right before. It's been six months though so that memory is hazy.

My son flew out of Midway. There is a train right before the airport and I remember sitting on the other side of the gate very impatient since I had seen so little of him.
