the video instructions say to cut longer strips (it is easier to tie the 2 pieces together if it is longer).

Yup, foaling lady, those are the blankets. I just googled the instructions. For an adult, I think it's two yards of fabric, and you can choose to make it single or double layer. I've made the double layer ones, since it gets pretty darn cold here. Just use polar fleece. I found the blue camo fleece online, and I'm sure you can find all kinds of Navy-related patterns. Check out Hancock Fabrics, JoAnn. I just googled it again and saw it at Amazon.com for cheaper than I paid. I'll see if I can find some instructions for you.

you can make the no-sew blankets in any size -- I have made them to take to the animal humane society for the cats (approx 14"x20"). fleece is usually 54" wide, so if you get 2 yards of 2 different fabrics (maybe print on one side, plain on the other), have the 2 pieces of fabric together, cut 2" strips on the edge about 3/4" wide, and tie the edges. the resulting blanket would be about 52"x70".

do you have a Joann Fabrics close? they actually sell packaged fleece to make a blanket in 2 different sizes, but have a limited selection of prints.

go to this website -- it even has a video

Michimom, Can you give us some info on the no-sew fleece blankets? Are those the ones that you knot the edges together? I have one someone gave me for Christmas about 6 years ago, in a cute horse print, but never knew how it was made. Details? Like how much and what kind of fabric do I need, do I wash it first, etc? I am a complete sewing/crafts novice but I would love to be able to make a Navy-themed throw. Also, where's a good place to get such fabric ... one with anchors like aaronsgirl did would be so cool!

you don't need wifi to download books; you can connect the ereader to a pc with a usb cable and copy them that way. but you need wifi to get the books downloaded to the pc.

Julsburd - Your son fits the profile of 90% of nucs, with the added advantage of having some college under his belt in an actual Engineering curriculum. This means if he has already had some chemistry, and above all physics and calculus at the college level. I was in the College of Engineering at Illinois myself many years ago, and saw the nuc program as my shot at redemption, and with the year and a half of the U of I in Engineering, I dang near aced Power School, and qualified first at my Prototype (not to brag or anything ;) ). I worked hard to do that, but not nearly as hard as many, many others. Regarding the golf; I visited Charleston recently for the first time and played the course on base, which is decent, though probably doesn't drain real well in the winter. The front nine is kinda lame, and is actually where you get a glimpse of the prtotype subs - on the back nine, you can only see the back of the support building. The back nine is by far the more interesting. I played it as a DoD civilian for less than 20 bucks. I believe it's now open to the public, but you'll probably want to check with your son to grease the skids for you. I didn't play it, but I did check out the course at Patriot's Point, which looked terrific and a bargain at ~$60, given the location, views, and resort-type quality. If you want to really treat yourself and pay and arm and a leg, you can play Kiawah, about an hour from the base, where the 1991 Ryder Cup was played, and next year's PGA Championship will be. Oh - it's also where they filmed the golf scenes in "Bagger Vance". Looking ahead a few years - if your son winds up in the Great Northwest, the quality and the value of the golf here in Kitsap county (Bangor sub base and homeport for one carrier) will astound you.

your download the books from Barnes and Noble. I haven't tried it yet, but it is supposed to be able to borrow them from the llibrary also.

I also was able to create a word document on my laptop, save it as a .pdf file, copy it to the ereader and then I could view it on the ereader. it thinks it is a book, but it works for viewing a document. I create a word doc for our trips with all the reservation info, so this will be great for keeping the info with us on trips.\

I saw it on a couple Black Friday ads and I got it at Kohls with a 30% off coupon :-).

the third kitten is also buff with darker ears. the kittens are just 4 weeks old. I started fostering them when the babies were just 4 days old -- just opening their eyes.

my3sons I just bought the Pandigital Novel ereader and so far I love it. I haven't used it much for reading, but it has a calendar, alarm, can access internet, read books, holds photos, videos, music. It was about the same price as a kindle, but does more and has a color touch screen.

I'm fostering a mama and her kittens for the humane society and we were out to dinner last night and I showed everyone pictures of the kittens on the ereader.
