Julsburd- Sorry, no outlaw of World of Warcraft... :( Your son will be required to put in a certain amount of study hours though. So normally that drags them away from the computer enough to get some studying done. :)
The really bad news: A new version of WoW comes out December 7th.. Aaron has had it preordered for weeks already!

And as for the golfing- I don't golf, but Aaron does. When he gets done with class, I'll be sure to ask him about courses that he's been to. :)
Oh, and for everybody! I came across this pretty cool document..
http://www.lukeswartz.com/nrotc/charleston_guide.pdf
There's TONS of restaurants and things to do on there. :) Including golf... :)

Any of you guys golf? My husband and I plan to go visit when our son earns some liberty on the weekend and we would love to tag it up with some golf. Any recommendations on courses around there that aren't super expensive but nice?

That is great advice Pat. I will do that. It is comforting to hear your advice and to know that they will be getting the help they need so I don't have to nag or worry. I am definitely going to be there for him and encourage him all the way! This is his chance to do it all over again and I think he knows that. He has wiped the slate clean and can fix some of his old bad habits. I will let him do that on his own and I will support him and be proud of his effort. Thanks again.

Oh julsburd, you are speaking my language. I totally know what you mean.
this is going to be an interesting time seeing how they blossom and become more scholarly and responsible. I know they can do it.
My son has been talking with another Nuke, a friend of a friend, who has been there a few months now. He said that as long as they do some studying and give it some effort, it isn't so bad. I'm sure that varies from person to person, but it's like that with most things in life. Hopefully this is what will motivate our very smart sons to want to be successful. And if not, then the Navy can use that good ole military discipline, right? :)

Julsburd, Welcome to the Nuke family. We have all noticed that our Nukes have the same profile.......very smart but didn't do well in high school or college and almost all are addicted to gaming. Then they get to Goose Creek and BAM, they blossom!! They acquire study habits and strive to get high grades!! While the Nuke program is VERY difficult, the Navy wants them to succeed. In the evening when they study, there are instructors there to help. So don't worry, it won't help. When you talk to your sailor, be positive and encourage. They get tired and stressed and you are a safe place to vent. Best wishes to your sailor and to you. Pat

I am also hoping they curtail those damn online video games. World of Warcraft was his demise in college... I am certain of it.
Comment by Julsburd on November 15, 2010 at 4:35pm
I am hoping that they will "stand" on him to get his studying done first! Lol. He was in engineering at a big 10 school and just did not commit to the time involved for studying. He was not real good at asking for help either so I am counting on that good ole military discipline to keep him on his toes. I know I will hear all about the stress of it but that is ok as long as he gets the support. Thanks for your comments!

Pat L. Yes, we do have a Hobby Lobby. Fairly new one. i live in Phoenix. I will check there too. thank you for that info.
Julsburd, my son is the same. I've heard the same from a lot of people with Nukes.
