Hi! Will need to change my name too... But this is sooo funny! I just remarked that my son is on a spending spree... after BC... he said a lot of people bought tv's he bought a wireless router, was at the NEX today looking at christmas presents and other stuff! Who knows what he bought. He said he has another week or so til A School starts... Must be a shock to their system after BC!

Thought I would chime in and brag on my boy! He has bought two plane tickets home, will buy one for Upstate NY for Christmas, bought a new laptop and a wireless router for his room, took his ps3 from home, tried to buy me dinner every time I go see him AND put $3000 in the bank already. And he left for basic on 19 May. He is putting his bonus into a 401k so his retirement is taken care of and plans to buy a car in around 4 months so he maintains his amount in the bank. I had no idea I taught the boy to be that frugal!

And since he's a new petty officer, he spent the weekend moving into his new bachelor quarters. He has the larger two person room compared to the smaller one person room. He said the sad thing about it all is that he had just gotten his new roommate broken in and decided he was an okay fellow!

Okay, I'm all finished bragging about Binker and will now sit anxiously awaiting his arrival home next week. He requested delaying his post A school leave so he could save on trips back and forth since his aunt and sister are coming to Louisville for Thanksgiving.

This is all sounding so familiar. My son did buy himself a new laptop (needed one, though) and some cheap movies, as well as one of those PSPs (personal play station, I think). That's pretty much it, though, and he says he doesn't go out much; I know that's because he watches his money. He's been very good about sending me a monthly check for his phone, since he's part of our family plan and there doesn't seem to be a reason to change--at least yet.

He even asked me advice about getting a credit card through the bank so he can develop some good credit (they're the only ones who would give him a card yet, since that's where his account is). AND he's buying his own plane ticket home for Christmas.

My boy is really growing up. As if graduating boot camp didn't get that to sink in, this all is. Makes me happy and a little sad.

Yes, I like your son more and more NavyMomLG. sounds like a great guy.
They do need some down time and fun too, so that is great that they are going to get out for Thanksgiving. Don't know where my son learned his spending habits. It's the ME and NOW generation I guess. Certainly wasn't how he was raised. I hope that he can really get focused on school once everything settles down and gets started. Probably will be a little distracting until after the holidays. We aer looking forward to maybe going down there during spring break.

Fortunately, my son has always been frugal. It does seem that since he has been in class he is too busy to get off base. He and a group of classmates are going to go into Charleston for Thanksgiving dinner though, so I hope they get to do a little more exploring.

your son is very smart NavyMomLG. I think once classes get started my son will have less time to spend. I sure hope so anyway. He does have access to my NetFlix account so has been watching movies and staying in just a little bit. I'm sure it's exciting to go out and explore a little bit though.
He had a really good full-time job at home before he left for bootcamp and spent every dime he made here too. Hopefully that will wear off as he matures. ha.

It's very funny how each new group is so much alike. My son hasn't left base since his first weekend there in mid-October because he doesn't want to be tempted to spend money :) Guess he didn't see much at the NEX that he wanted. He did get a new phone and his own plan at Best Buy that first weekend, but is making due with his old computer, and the tv/gaming systems his bunkmates bought.

Aaronsmom - I am glad I'm not the only one with a spend happy son. ha. He has had a goooooood time the last few days buying up a storm. I know he helped the sales at Best Buy too. He also just HAD to spend a fortune on itunes for his new ipad, also bought new sheets and blankets and a pillow for his bed. He hates the old stuff and wanted fresh, clean stuff. I'm sure there is a bunch more he bought that he didn't tell me. Funny thing is that I have all of that here, waiting to send to him: laptop, phone, dorm length sheets and comforter, backpack. A bit of money and they go crazy. At least he says he is buying his own plane ticket home for Chritsmas. Sounds like things are going well in G.C. and he says it's green and pretty there.
I think I'll change my user name like Josie did.

Pat L- Are they really #1 in sales? I knew they had to be up there pretty far. :)
I mean, give some of the most computer/video game savvy guys a steady paycheck for two months (which many of them have never had before), deprive them of video games for 9 weeks, and then set them loose in a Best Buy. Oh boy. I can only imagine what their profits are!

Josie, love your eagle avatar (pic). Is that new too? I don't remember it from the PIR 11/5 group..
