My Son is in BC now, PIR 12/17, he is allowed to come home, but must report to GC by 7am on December 28. I have a few questions.
What Airline to fly into Charleston from NYC Airports, seems to be only 5 and nothing direct (one way prices now are $400/$600 yipes)
Best way to get from Airport to NNPTC
any help/suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

my son has me send him the tracking number of the package. he said then he didn't have to wait for the sailor to bring him a slip for the package - he could just go pick it up himself.

Mail isn't delivered to your sailor daily but each class has a sailor designated as a mail person. He/She goes to the mailroom to get mail and doesn't necessarily go each day. If there is a package they will bring your sailor a slip that lets them know they have a package and they can go get it. I always let my son know when I mailed a package so he could bug the mail person to go check the mail. My son said that sometimes the person would be so busy or have extra hours of study they would forget or not have time but with a gentle hint it was never a big problem for him. (He also got the address of a married classmate and I sometimes sent things there as the mail was delivered directly to married housing not through the base postoffice)

foaling-lady, is your son class 1103?
Comment by NavyMomLG on November 12, 2010 at 2:29pm
Don't count on the 2-3 day delivery the USPS advertises for the flat rate boxes - they may deliver to the base in that time frame, but my son didn't get his Halloween box that I sent on 10/25 until 11/3. I will add that he still had his indoctrination address, so I don't know if that makes a difference, so I will see how long it takes for him to get the box I just sent on Monday with his actual class address.

My son asked for some civilian clothes; he'll be thru 4 weeks by next weekend ... was going to mail a few things via the USPS flat rate boxes, $10 and $15, but does anybody have a cheaper idea for a bigger, heavier box? Not sure if UPS is an option, I seem to remember something from boot camp about only postal service delivery allowed on base.

@Michimom I haven't read all the below posts but I totally agree with you on the frequency of calls. It seems I text him here and there during the week and then we talk once a week. I am happy with that since I know school can be all consuming. You may laugh at me but when I'm in Gmail and I see the little 'green' indicator that my son is also in Gmail, I just smile because I know here's out there in cyberland even if we aren't talking. LOL

Yes, Kat, your son sounds like all of the other Nukes. I foolishly thought we would hear from our son quite often once he was away from GL, but no. We've now got a pattern where we chat about once a week and maybe text a bit during the week, but that's it. Of course, when we chat, it's about half an hour for each of us, so it ends up being an hour to an hour and a half, if his sister is home. Can't complain too much there. Just remember from boot camp: no news is good news. And keep repeating that. :)

Sherri- Your welcome. :) Let me know if you need anything clarified!

Kat- Sounds like your son is doing exactly what every other single Nuke does the minute they get off base! :) Aaron had his first Hooters experience his first weekend in Goose Creek. I was definitely a little worried since he was in uniform. :)

Don't worry about that phone call. I know you're anxious to hear from him, but he really doesn't have access to a phone. I only had one phone call from Aaron before he got his phone, and he had to borrow someone else's to make the call. They apparently don't really have pay phones down there, and most of your sons friends probably don't have phones yet just like him. Be patient. :) Communication will open up once he has his phone, laptop, Xbox, Ps3, etc. back. :)

P.S. The spending at the NEX was probably stuff for his room such as an alarm clock or trash can or hangers. :)
