The meaning behind Binker: When my wonderful little 6'4" boy was born, I was an Air Force Officer. For a lot of reasons, many of which had to do with the harassment many, many women in all branches of the military face, Binker came 6 weeks early. In part, because of his premature arrival, he kept a pacifier in his mouth 24 hours a day (as a stress reliever, I was told). My husband called the pacifier a Binky. Somehow, "the boy" became Binky and then Binker. Now, my sister (his Godmother) and I are the only ones whom he allows to call him by his baby name.

Any Nov 5 A school grads heading for GC for the festivities?

Throwing it out there for Christmas stocking stuffers ... we should all try to buy the t-shirts from USO that you get for a minimum $25 donation ... USO is doing a great service for our guys, I was impressed how they took care of our sailors at the airports. I got the 4th of July one, good quality, my son wore it all summer to his DEP workouts.

Amanda just informed me today of this cool place...
http://www.cypressgardens.info/
Apparently that's where they filmed the lake scene off of the Notebook!! :)
I'm making Aaron take me there during my Thanksgiving trip because...

HE BOUGHT A CAR TODAY!! :)
I've been trying to get him to go car shopping for quite some time, but backed off when he said he didn't have the money. I suggested he use the difference between an E-3 paycheck and E-4 paycheck to put towards a car payment. Well, he finally went car shopping, and he bought one today!

I know this may seem a little weird because I'm only a girlfriend.. But I'm proud of him. He's growing up which is super exciting for me to see.. Maybe he'll make a good husband after all. ;)

What a great day. My son arrived in Charleston late last night, couldn't call, but called this afternoon, just as casual as can be, "Hi mom, it's me" -- those are the most beautiful words ever! After boot camp, Goose Creek will seem like heaven, at least to me ... can call, email, text, ain't life grand for a Navy mom!

Charleston is loaded with things to do! Go to the Battery, Aiken-Rhett House & Middleton (Did you ever see the series "North & South"), Middleton Place, Drayton Hall, Patriot's Point and Yorktown ship..... etc, etc, etc. EAt at Hyman's Seafood in downtown on King's Street, or R.B.'s (more $$) in Mt. Pleasant.
http://www.charlestoncvb.com/ is a site to check out, too

There's been a discussion on PIR 10/29 about what to do in Charleston. Seems like the Ghost Tour is pretty popular. We're going during Thanksgiving so I"m scouring everywhere for info on what to do in the area.

TNNAVYMOM- thanks for the idea with pringle cans.
REGARDING DEBT: i think what type of debt you have is more of an issue, school loans arent as big of an issue as a credit card debt would, I know my sons credit card was a big issue with his SCPO's - if you have big credit card debt -and its just misc & stupid charges - it makes you look irresponsible and like your not a good decision maker and that translates to maybe not a good leader.

Linda - what a beautiful message, thank you for sharing. I just read it at my desk over my lunch break - good thing no one walked in on me!!

QT -- my son at RTC is in same situation, and actually went Nuke to make more $$$ to pay off loans! He set up acct. with federal student loan to make payments each month, something like $135. to be withdrawn each month. Problem was, his first bootcamp paycheck went in a day after the $$ came out, so he had an overdraft charge, but I think he's fine now. He gave me all the acct. #s so I could check on everything. If you have one of the student loan bills, should have website for you to set up the payment plan. If he stays current on plan, should be OK.

QT - my MM has a $9500 student loan and a credit card on his report. All payments were current and had been paid on time (private student loan that we opted to pay interest payments from day 1 and not deferred payments). So, I'm guessing that if his credit report is clean and his payments have been made on time, he's okay.
