Hi Foaling-lady, My son graduated on 10/15. He is also MM. He is suppose to fly out of GL early Tuesday morning. I guess we will be going through this together. : ) It's nice to know someone who is starting the same time with the same job. I look forward to talking with you more. I know the other Moms on this site will help us through.

Mary - we stayed at the Wingate by the University too and it was nice, staff was real friendly. However they are redoing one of the girls dorms at the college and so a whole floor of girls were staying there, your boys may or maynot enjoy it......
Challange coins - I also heard that everyone in the bar lays there coins and whoever has the lowerst rank buys the drinks.
Talked to my sailor last night, hes kind of bummed as they maybe shutting down a reactor and the other one might also go down so everything might get pushed back even more. He's moping because friends from BC have already finished their first tours on ships. It was nice to talk with him though, he's lonely. Said hes thinking about coming home for a few days before prototype is suppose to start but doesnt know, he has a grandma whos going to be 102yr.

Home from GL after 10/15 PIR, now the real fun starts! My son ships out Wednesday very early am to SC, I think with at least 2 dozen other sailors from his boot camp division (347). He's a MM but won't know his class until later. I've just been reading some of the older posts on this site, full in good info, taking notes about stuff like holiday leave, gift ideas, hotels .. you guys are great, keep the tips coming for us new nuke moms! Anybody out there from 10/15 BC grad, div. 347 who's nuke, esp. MM A school, pls stay in touch with me... I really appreciate any info.

My3sons, that is so funny! I think I'll do that, too, and see what he gets. Also, I didn't think of more than one challenge coin. I like the Anchor's Aweigh one. Great ideas!

I am wondering where you can purchase a NEX gift card. Is there a website?
Comment by Pat L. in IL on October 18, 2010 at 11:50am
One story about Challenge Coins is that when sailors went into a bar, they would slap a challenge coin on the bar. The sailor who didn't have a coin had to pay for the drinks!
Comment by mn linda (nuke MM ELT Groton CT) on October 18, 2010 at 11:36am
I didn't know there was a game for the Challenge coins. I just thought they were nice keepsakes. for PIR, I bought him the Recruit training command coin, Navy core values coin, and the Navy Creed. for A school graduation, I am ordering his E-4 rank coin and Anchors Aweigh.
