Thanks Cindy! I have that just haven't printed it out yet. I will do that and he will have it to reference.

Janie,
They have a minimum of two weeks of leave between Power School and Prototype. They need it to find a rental and set up housekeeping. With the holds they've been having, it may be more, but two weeks has always been the norm.

Sharon, someone else will give you first hand info, I'm sure - but in the meantime, my understanding is that their not allowed to drive to "A" school, but have to wait until they reach a particular liberty phase. I've noticed that a lot of the sailors' parents have ended up driving their kid's vehicles to SC, because of travel restrictions.

I have a question for the veteran moms..................are the sailors able to take their own cars/trucks down to S.C.? Diego is thinking he will be able to drive his truck down when he goes for "A" school. Thanks!

They have at least 3 days to get to BS because most of them drive up there. My son stopped home on his way up there, but we still went to the power school grad. and his grandparents flew in from Oklahoma to attend. We had a wonderful time down there.

Janie, Power School is definitely the biggest event of the three. Most sailors do have family in attendance. A friend of mine here on N4M's could not attend so I took pictures for her and emailed them to her. I'm sorry that I can't exactly remember when my sailor found out that he was staying at GC but it was pretty close to the end of Power School.

Ed'smom,

That is too funny about the braces. Back in the summer of 88' I wanted to join the Navy after researching the medical programs for each service. The Navy had the best programs and so I went to speak with the recruiter and show my interest. I was told "when you get your braces off, come back and we can talk." I told him that they were paid for and I only go for adjustments, but he said they "couldn't take on the liability." So, it would be months before I was to get them off and I met my husband in the fall and history was written. I never joined, but God had a plan and it continues.

Diego is really looking forward to a wonderful career with the Navy, he will make an outstanding Officer one day. He is a really humble kid, good head on his shoulders. We were good with his decision because of who he is and where he wants to go in the future.

It is funny how things work out..............all is God's hands. Wishing your son all the best! I am glad to have this forum that is for sure.

Sharon~ It's good to hear Diego's recruiter was helpful. Ed was in the Diego's shoes last year. His father and I had to sign approvals, because he was only seventeen at the time. It was bittersweet watching him head off to MEPS, then having to be back for wrestling and Senior activities. He is one of the youngest in his class. lol. He was originally scheduled to leave for BC in January, but a seat became available sooner. Funny thing....he could not leave for BC until his braces were removed. I loved it!!

Ed was a 900 div. in BC and was not grad-n-go, which seems to match what Casey had said.

Just thought I would share with you. Diego spoke with his recruiter this morning and they were pretty shocked that he didn't get USNA or NROTC. Anyway, he has his "Nuke" seat and they were pretty positive with him in regards to wanting to become an "Officer" and they told him it shouldn't be any problem. They also support him in re-applying next year and I was really concerned with that. I wasn't sure if they would encourage him, so glad it was a positive meeting with them. That is such a relief for him and for us. He knows what he wants, researches it to the end and we know that he will get where he wants to go. Whew, now he can play baseball, finish his senior year of high school, get through graduation and stay in shape before heading to BC on 21 September. I know the time will fly by and I will have to let him go start a great career serving our country! We are so proud of him already, he steps up to the plate and takes care of things on his own. Keeps us in the loop though which is great!
