Welcome to the group. Hopefully it will be cooler when you get to Goose Creek.

Jeanne, Your future DIL has great skills and she will find a way to use them. I know of a career military family and the wife was highly educated. She had a job in her field wherever they went (I believe she was a school counselor and schools will be an option for your DIL). As long as they can adjust to the possibly frequent moves, they will be fine.

Doublemom,
If that is a picture of you next to the handsome young man, then you better go to Hollywood and get yourself into show buz. I had my two boys at almost 36 & 40. I wouldn't recommend it. It's really hard to take off that baby fat. My sailor is 25. He has not cooperated with providing any grandchildren. I have tried offering money, free baby-sitting, new car, apartment. He wants to have a really established career before getting married. His off-and-on girl friend of 5 years is getting impatient. What's a mother to do?

Seashell, Congratulations! Being a Grandma is the BEST! All the fun and you don't have all that responsibility to raise them right! You can spoil them rotten and then send them home and let their parents figure it out! heehee! AND you are getting two!!!

Yep, that was out in yesterday's paper here - trust me, whenever the Navy says "no specific issue was involved", it means, "a number of specific issues were involved".

Our Nuke is now at Bremerton, and very happy. They all made it home safe and sound,
Things are quiting down here, especially since they left and school started. I'm still reorganizing the house and deep cleaning. Will be glad when I have it the way that I want it.
No job interviews yet - the Union is in Binding Arbritration with the Court. I'm not sure what that all means or will entail - but hopefully full reinstatement or a settlement. Thank you for all of your prayers~s

All emergency room visits are covered by Tricare. There's not a hospital in the US that doesn't take Tricare for ER visits, as long as they are actually emergencies. I know this the hard way.

If a sailor is on leave and not able to get to their base, they can call Tricare and get a referral to an urgent care clinic in the area. If he can contact his base clinic first, he absolutely should do so, but they'll put him through to the tricare folks to get a referral. The number for Tricare South is 1-800-444-5445. This may be the correct number for an out of area referral, call and ask! (I'm on Triwest, so my number is different).

As Navy retirees, we must have a referral, but that's usually just a phone call and then a visit to an urgent care clinic which is just up the block. When use urgent care when it isn't an emergency and we can't get a base clinic same day appointment.

He has a military ID.His active duty ID is his proof of insurance. I would call the local hopital and ask them how they handle active duty military, if he needs to be seen immediately. You could also call the recruiting office near you tomorrow morning and they will help him.

My husband did it also, except he threw in a pair of nearly new jeans. His underware came out a lovely shade of lavender. When my sons got out of BC, I sent each of them a box of color catchers in their first care package from home.
