Thanks for all the help with the sheets - I had already sent some regular twin out so if they dont fit he'll have to make do a couple more weeks:)
** the first shopping he did when he got to GC he bought a lot of underwear because by the time he left bc he only had 2 pairs left (the laundry at bc had lost most of them)
**He did not take anything to GC because he said they were advised not to. (He's a rule follower) I have since mailed out his cell phone and wallet and am slowly mailing stuff to him. An fyi - did you can mail a big plastic tote.

Bev - my son said Goose Creek is a decent size town, the have a high school because he said if they wanted the sailors could go watch games and even help out if they want. its sounds like the town also have some type of minor leaque baseball team the sailors can go watch. When they get to GC they are assigned roommates most of whom have been there a while. My son and a buddy had planned to room toghether but were told otherwise.

Bev, Goose Creek is a few miles northwest of Charleston, South Carolina.

Bev, they can have all their electronic devices to use while in their rooms and on liberty. No phones during school hours or on duty. They must earn the privilege to wear civvies, takes a couple weeks. They can wear their contacts and civilian glasses, although I think the glasses can't be too wild. I haven't looked at specific uniform regs in ages.

No, unless they are married they have to live in the BEQ. They have to live off base if they go to Prototype in New York. Not sure about GC. Once they get to their ship or boat they live on base because they don't get a housing allowance until they make Petty Officer 2.

Welcome to you, too, Jimmy's Mom. Usually they find out during Basic whether they will be MM, EM, or ET. NOTE!!!! I preface everything with "usually" and trust me, there is a reason. heehee!!!

cell phones - we have ALLTEL/Verizon and my son talked to a Verizon dealer there and it sounds like he'll keep it if he has good service.

They can carry up to 75 days of leave over into the next fiscal year (beginning 10/1). Anything over 75 days (very rare) is lost as of the first day of the fiscal year (use or lose).
