When you hear that from your sailor, please remind him that it doesn't matter how high he scores on the test. What is important is that he passed. My son told me that once they graduate from power school, they all start even again at prototype. Then they start over again when they get to the fleet. No one ever asks you what your test scores were in power school when you get to your ship or boat. They just expect the best of you in doing your job.

Hi Terry and other new to power school folks :) there is a Oct Power school discussion group started - come and join us!

Tina - I would say power school. I did not get to go to A-school, but it seems like it is very low key and over quickly. Power school is the sailors and at my son's the officers which had completed power school also. An admiral or vice admiral gives a short speech. His was in June and was held outside. It is hard to explain how you hold you breath when you see your sailor cross that stage to receive their diploma. You are encouraged to take photos of your sailors division standing at attention prior to the actual ceremony starting, then again encouraged to go up front as their division is called to take pictures. If you have a choice, I would definitely save up and go to the power school grad.

Linda, Keep in mind that Basic is the hardest because there is limited communication. When he gets to Goose Creek, he can have his phone and computer so it is much easier to talk. There are several sites that will tell you what he is doing in Basic week by week so you can kind of track what is going on. This also helps with things to ask in snail mail letters. I have a couple of good pictures of barracks at GC so send me your email and I can send them to you. Best wishes to you and your recruit. And also welcome to the Nuke family. Pat

Linda, Take a deep breath and enjoy the Holidays with your son. There is plenty of time to panic at the end of January. Keep checking in here whenever you need us. After he leaves for BC, start planning on going to the PIR, that should keep you busy.

I agree, power school graduation is not to be missed.

Tina, "A" school grad is very small. Power School grad is the really big one! Hey, if you see my daughter in Cadillac, say hi. She is the one with the cutest one year old in the world!!

Judy and Mrs. Andy, Talked to my sailor last night. He graduates Power School in Nov. too. He says they have all started to grow their "comp-stache" which is apparently a tradition to grow a mustache before comps!! I thought this was really funny..........anybody else heard of this????
