Yes, you would be able to deliver his personal stuff to him in GC. I think that the only issue is with cars. But he can store civilian cloths until he's allowed to where them and can have his phone, etc. Alex decided he didn't need a car until he got to NY.

Hi, when does Darrick leave for GC?

Anti M, The contract SEALs have a heavier emphasis on swimming and running while in basic to get them ready for Hell Week.

My nephew was in a regular company as a nuke, I think. There are "push" divisions, but I don't know much about those. More physical for the SEALS?

There are "jobs" in boot camp performed by recruits, assigned based on experiences or education. My nephew was the "EPO" or Educational Petty Officer. This meant he helped the other recruits study to pass their exams. It wasn't because he was a nuke, it was because he had some collage. I'd done the very same thing in boot camp many years before. There's a recruit commander, and division leaders, and a yeoman and one for physical training. At least, that was my experience. None of this affects their career as sailors once they're out of basic, unless it is to be chosen for a similar position in A school. The experience as a leader does help once you hit the fleet, not on paper, but personally.

There is one group that is kept together and who's BC experience is different than the rest of the sailors. Those are the SEAL contract recruits. A friend of mine's son is now a SEAL in VA., when he's not deployed.

I don't have any problem if our sailors compare it to college. That is a good perception for them and helps relieve the pressure. Its people outside of the Navy family that don't understand, that I have a problem with. I think its great that your daughter feels like nuke school is like college. It sounds like she is and will continue to do great!

Hi Andra and Welcome, My Nuke was one of seven in his division. I think they "sprinkle" them throughout the divisions.(at least they did a year ago). Also, I would like to welcome you to all the exciting things and growth experiences that Blake has coming in the next couple of years. Yes, I know all about that little ache in your heart but with that comes HUGE pride in their accomplishments. Pat

Hi everyone, Just got back from having some minor surgery. To Mark and Jeanne, I didn't mean to make it sound like all CTs are all dry land (although I do count Iraq as definitely dry land). I was just referring to Chris' career track. I think most of the CT's in the sand box are CTIs. Not sure which spooks they put on subs, but I do know that Chris opted out of sub service. He didn't want any chance of crossing paths with his brother. They are both determined to head in their own directions in the Navy. Even though they have a lot in common. Chris finished college but hated it and hated the job hunting thing. Every civilian job sounded "boring" or " useless" (his words). Alex just hated the college life style. "Boring and shallow", so for each of them the Navy felt right.

I don't know what it's like now, but I don't see why it would be any different - but when I was in it was not unusual for a fast attack boat to have a number of spooks on board for an op. We had something like a dozen aboard for two months on one occasion. The rest of the crew didn't see much of them - except for meals, they seemed to spend their time in the rack or holed up in the radio shack.

Alex also likes to tell everyone who will listen that his big brother is not really in the Navy because he will never deploy on a ship or sub. Lots of snide remarks about the Dry Land Navy. But Chris is very happy being a "spook". His favorite books is called Ethical Hacking. Not that he would ever do anything like that????. He recently got to write a report for Congress, subject classified. Then he got a commendation from the Army. His brother gave him real grief for that one. Forgive my straying from the Nuke world. LOL
