He has multiple myeloma. They killed his immune system with chemo and transplanted his own stem cells back in. He's been living without an immune system, and last week he had a cold. We thought he was healing, but he relapsed. He also has amyloids, which are protein chains building in his organs. No cure for that.

I do appreciate the support, this place is great, even for us aunties.

Thanks Wanda, we didn't try those, it is the middle of the night there and folks like the ombudsman would be sleeping. Normal reaction of old sailors is to hit up whoever is on watch. We KNOW they're awake! And wake up the command master chief? Are you nuts? (LOL)

I'm still online trying to blow off the nervous steam ... almost every command has a website, almost everyone lists the contact numbers. Either the Quarterdeck or the Master At Arms will have a live body on duty. I threw up the message here and then used a link in the intro thread to find the NNPTC. The number to the quarter deck must be wrong, but we got through to the MAA right off. He's going to track down Jeremy for us personally. Really helped to have hubby, the retired ET1 call ... I'm choking up too much.

Thanks for being here.

We found the number to the MAA ... hubby talked to the PO on watch and they're going to wake Jeremy up and have him call his mom on her cell. We have Red Cross on it too if he needs the emergency leave notice.

This is Very Bad. I knew he was very sick, but I'm not ready to lose another brother. Thanks for all the prayers and good thoughts.

Found it ... sorry to freak out, but this is bad.
Comment by Anti M on December 4, 2008 at 1:13am
I need the number to power school and I need it NOW ... my brother is in the ER, they're trying to keep him alive long enough to put him ICU ... my SIL is there and we can't reach her while she's at the hospital ... we've called Red Cross but we don't have a lot of info to give them!

HELP!!!!!

Maybe I should clarify after seeing the other responses. Our son told us it was small---and we never received any invitation. It could be because we flew out the following week. Thanks, Tina for your information.

Thanks Cheryl ... he is improving, but he's still very sick, multiple myeloma with amyloidosis. Not nice. Congrats on being a survivor ... I'm at four years myself. Two types in 2004, colon carcinoid AND breast. Plus my oldest brother died of colon cancer in 2001. That leaves one sibling who's not had cancer. So scary being a "cancer family" as my oncologist calls us. Still, you do what you need to do and move on.

I disagree carols kitchen - I did not feel it was a small event at all - I was very proud of my son graduating A school, and by the number of other parent's there, I wasn't the only one. I believe any graduation is just as important as high school, or boot camp, or anything.
Comment by Trina (Spencer's Mom) on December 3, 2008 at 7:58pm
You will get an invitation in the mail - I believe my son sent mine home to me. They should know at some point the graduation date, so ask him. If he doesn't know, they most likely haven't told them yet when it is.
