Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Kelly is actually being a long way from harsh. I was wondering about that rumor, because I'm in a position where I would have heard it fairly quickly, had it been true. I decided not to comment, so as not to draw more attention to it. The fact is that rumors (or facts) about conditions of the Navy's reactor plants do not belong on a public forum like this. That is an OPSEC issue (specifically in this case NNPI, Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information). The fact that a prototype is shutdown for work is not sensitive information, it is fairly routine, but specific information about plant problems (especially "leaks") should not be posted.

Karen - what class is your son(?) in? Which building?

Mags, the only delay with riding the Harley would be the safety course. He must take it. he can get the info from security/base DMV.

Hi everyone - If you have sons or daughters who are in nuke school, thinking of applying to OCS (this is definitely a great way to go officer!), my daughter went through this process about 1 year ago, so I'd be happy to answer questions. She is now in flight school in Pensacola, FL and is having the time of her life!

We rode Harleys in Japan, which has extremely hot and humid summers. You do get used to the safety gear, although the safety vest looks dorky with Harley leathers. I customized my safety vest and still have it to this day. You do get used to the gear in the heat, it isn't bad at all. The trick with it is to find the lightweight gear for summer, and the heavier stuff in winter. Hubby rode his bike daily to Totsuka, in Japanese traffic and loved it. He loved it a lot more in San Diego, but he was riding my bike by then... a taxi ran a red light in Yokohama and totaled his FXRS. Turns out the safety gear saved his face and head! He was bruised and had a broken nose, but landed on his feet after a tuck and roll over the handlebars.

Jeanne - I was the one who couldn't drop my son off. I talked to him once he got to the recruiter, but couldn't actually bring him there.

Also - there are all the pictures on the right of the area here. Above that you can click the Follow button, and then whenever new comments come into this board, you will get an email. That is another way to do it. Then you always know when someone is commenting.

ArkansasNavyMom - Stick with these boards. They will help. When my son left for BC 2 yrs ago, he wasn't even 18 yet. I couldn't even bring him to his recruiter to drop him off cuz I was crying and didn't want that for him leaving.

He has made it through these two years really well. He has matured immensely, and he was pretty mature before even going in. The true test for me was that he remembered Mother's Day - he sent a card, and he even called me on Mother's Day.

There is a lot of support here, so bookmark to 'follow' this board. There are alot of friends here.

Cindy, I hear ya! Now that all the kids are grown, I consider the stove a "decorative accessory!"

Hi Sue, My first piece of advice is to take everything you know about the Army and forget it. Nukes have their own language. Is your son going surface or subs?
