Don't know about the alligators, but my son use to talk about the spiders. He said there was one that was so big, he didn't know whether to kill it or name it and get it a leash. He was very happy when they sent him to New York.

LOL, don't throw rocks at me ... but there is smart and then there is Nuke smart. Nukes tend to be too smart for their own good. Gimme a day and I'll remember all the old rivalry jokes ... I'll tell a few if I won't get beaten up!

Becca, They call it "dash for cash" because if they pass they get part of their bonus.

Hi Kristen!
My sailor is an MM also! Once you get the cell phone and computer to Goose Creek, you will like having more contact. Do expect some slight withdrawal once they start A school. It's very intense, and the sailor is studying confidential information. So hang in there until they find something they can talk about with you.
The sailor will first have "in-doc" about things like "don't pet the alligators, etc." As you have questions, just ask away! And, Charleston is a great place to visit!!!!!!!!

Hi Cindy,
Enlisted nucs and officer nucs are in parallel programs, where they share very similar, but mostly separate training. In power school they are completely separate, but do have similar classes - the differences are mainly that officers classes use higher level math in many of the theory type classes (calculus), while enlisted classes stay with fairly basic algebra. Also, for the technical (rather than theory) parts of the curriculum, enlisted get detailed material as it applies to their rating (electronics tech, electrician, or mechanic), and just a taste of the other two, and officers get the in depth material for each of the three enlisted rating. In prototype, enlisted and officers will mix quite a bit, as the officers get some experience in each of the enlisted watchstations, in addition to their main qualification of Engineering Officer Of the Watch - who is in charge of the entire plant on a given "shift". Because there are a lot of similarities, and the training is in the same places for the same length of time, you'll probably find this group useful, even though I don't think there are any other officer mom's active in the group. There are also Officer's moms groups that you will want to check out, as well. Finally, for your information, there are no nuclear powered cruisers in the US Navy anymore, so if your son is in the officer nuclear power program, he is destined to serve on aircraft carriers, if he is not going on subs.

We all nuke Moms here both surface and subs. I think most of us are enlisted Moms but I'm not sure. Everyone here is very friendly. There are also groups for Moms of Officers.

Lea - I agree!!! It is so great to 'know' Karen and all the great things she has done by setting up this site. And the links that she put at the top - like I said earlier, I understand so much more what my son is going through by reading them. He tells me what he is doing, but reading it and having it spelled out like that makes it much easier to understand.

we took our son's lap top to a shipping depot they packed it and it arrived with no problems.
