According to my son, while he was at Goose Creek, there isn't a transportation system that services the base. When he wanted to go anywhere he depended on his roommate. As far as having a car when he goes to a ship, he will definitely need one. The Navy has facilities for the guys to store their cars while they are at sea. If they want to get off base after a cruise/deployment they need a car to get around

Hi Pat, The USS Miami is a fast attack submarine. That means its the smallest of the Navy's subs. Alex says things are kind of cramped on board, but he likes the fast attack schedule better than the boomers. Fast Attacks go out alone and sometimes with the fleet, so they get to stop at ports of call on occasion. This summer they put into Port Canaveral and the guys went to Disney World. The Boomers are on a 3 & 3 rotation. They go out for 3 months then come in and change crews for the next 3 months. The advantage to the Bommers are that they are ballistic missile subs and are much larger submarines. Alex's best friend is on the Georgia and likes it because he is 6' 4" and has more sleeping room.

Chris, My son graduated last Fri. He will be T-tracking too. Will your son be starting Power School in Jan? Our kids could be in the same class. Pat

Welcome all you new Nuke Moms. There are now 236 of us, we are growing fast.
Sue, I will be very interested to hear what David has to say about prototype. My son starts Power School in Jan.
Lyn, What is the USS Miami? My son just told me that he is leaning toward subs. He is very tall and I wondered if this is an issue.
Thanks for any info and again welcome. Pat

Hi all Nuke Moms. My Nuke is Alex and he is a RO( reactor operator) on the USS Miami out of Groton, Conn. It really is great to find other Moms who know what I'm talking about when I talk about my son.

Hello again everyone, Have to share our good news with you. Jeff passed comps today with flying colors!!! We now have a new Petty Officer in the family!! He is so excited! It is especially exciting to us because he really floundered for a while and didn't know what he wanted to do. Then he joined the Navy and is loving it!! Thank you all for your support and good wishes. Pat
