While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In the event of an emergency within the sailor’s family, where you feel the sailor must be notified and considered for Emergency Leave, you must notify the American Red Cross through the national headquarters in Washington, DC (1-877-272-7337) or via their website www.redcross.org.

Comment by Anti M on December 4, 2008 at 1:43am: We found the number to the MAA ... hubby talked to the PO on watch and they're going to wake Jeremy up and have him call his mom on her cell. We have Red Cross on it too if he needs the emergency leave notice.

This is Very Bad. I knew he was very sick, but I'm not ready to lose another brother. Thanks for all the prayers and good thoughts.

Comment by Anti M on December 4, 2008 at 1:13am: I need the number to power school and I need it NOW ... my brother is in the ER, they're trying to keep him alive long enough to put him ICU ... my SIL is there and we can't reach her while she's at the hospital ... we've called Red Cross but we don't have a lot of info to give them!

HELP!!!!!

Comment by Anti M on December 3, 2008 at 8:50pm: Thanks Cheryl ... he is improving, but he's still very sick, multiple myeloma with amyloidosis. Not nice. Congrats on being a survivor ... I'm at four years myself. Two types in 2004, colon carcinoid AND breast. Plus my oldest brother died of colon cancer in 2001. That leaves one sibling who's not had cancer. So scary being a "cancer family" as my oncologist calls us. Still, you do what you need to do and move on.

Comment by Trina (Spencer's Mom) on December 3, 2008 at 8:00pm: I disagree carols kitchen - I did not feel it was a small event at all - I was very proud of my son graduating A school, and by the number of other parent's there, I wasn't the only one. I believe any graduation is just as important as high school, or boot camp, or anything.

Comment by Trina (Spencer's Mom) on December 3, 2008 at 7:58pm: You will get an invitation in the mail - I believe my son sent mine home to me. They should know at some point the graduation date, so ask him. If he doesn't know, they most likely haven't told them yet when it is.

A school graduation is quite small, but your sailor can get you clearance for the event. Basically, they get paperwork and a certificate. The paperwork allows them to wear new "patches" if they have received a promotion, tells them their grade point average, and grades their work ethic.
We did not go, but a friend of our sailor took some pictures. (Still waiting for them.) You should also get a copy of their class photo.
