OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

For those with new sailors at GC, they will take care of them during the storms. My son went through two different hurricane evacuations. If your sailors have their vehicles there, this is a good weekend to remind them to make sure their car is in top running shape. Gasoline filled, battery new and charged - don't leave lights on by accident.

Regarding getting harder - I think in Prototype they are trying to help the sailors get past a "school time" mentality and move into a "fleet - on duty" mentality. What that means will vary from ship to ship. I will just say, sometimes the NUKES alone are the ones going on some very long training days. They have to stay flexible and be ready to do whatever it takes to have the ship ready for operation.

And the training for me - is learning how I share what I know, but without going against OPSEC/PERSEC and that is hard!

He looks good, healthy, strong and motivated....thanks again for all the advice and experiences everyone gives, it has certainly helped me. I don’t comment much, but I do read the comments regularly. Sending love to all my sea sisters!

SLPO - Section Leading Petty Officer - In A school my son gave me the # for his SLPO. I never used it but it was there if I needed it. Being left off the list for A school graduation may be when you use it, but there could be other times. Discuss this with your sailor, for A school, PS, and Prototype.

It Just Gets Harder - I recall us discussing this with regards to some comments a little while back, especially with those in Prototype. I am not saying yea or nay on how it was presented to the sailors there - but this just became real for my sailor.

Comment by Mshelle on August 29, 2019 at 1:43am: ShellyMarie, The BEQs are very space limited. My daughter too likes to cook and can't wait until she can get her own place once in prototype. But, they do have a microwave and refrigerator. They were there.

I also was in Charleston the first weekend after arrival from BC. while at Target, a few other groups of sailors where there loading up on supplies, like toilet paper, hygiene necessities, etc. You can tell all those in phase 1 or INDOC as they are in uniform. I also seen a couple TVs purchased at the NEX.

I know there is one married sailor in her class and he has an apartment on base that has a kitchen. That may be an option. I am sure his classmates would be glad to do some taste testing...lol.

ShellyMarie - My son wanted to make sure I was leaving a space at home for all of his books! Your son may want a few of those board games.

I will be sending them along with a few books I know he will want. I have to constantly remind myself that I can't send all his favorite things, he won't have a place for them... Otherwise I'd pack up almost his whole room, and shelves full of board games!
