It was red capris today but my youngest was sporting his red shirt when I picked him up from camp today!! No one else may know why he is wearing it but I do and I smile.

Mshelle - be sure to look above in the discussions and click on Sightseeing in Charleston. Going downtown and walking around is neat, be prepared to pay for parking at the meters.  Also, I agree with JayDee - a dehumidifier might help.

Helena2000 - I laughed at your comment as well. I my son utilized the dictionary on his Kindle a lot, especially with his literature reading. It is one of the features I really like.

PacNWmom - Great picture if I didn't say so already.

RNnavymom - My son is an ET as well. Be sure to read my discussion above Nuke A School daily schedule - there is more information in the following comments and I geared some of them more toward ET. He will definitely need a car. We live in OK and drove two vehicles out to him while he was in PS, left his and drove the other back. He had a bicycle and had learned to navigate some around GC with the GPS on his phone, but he had very little driving experience before heading to BC and I wanted him to have time to get use to driving before he had to be doing it at all times of the day after 10 - 14 hour shifts in Prototype.  When he went to his duty station, it was closer for him to drive his vehicle there and then he flew home for his leave time after Prototype. Due to the location of the barracks and his ship, he drives every day to and from work now about 30 - 45 min. one way. Yes, he needs his car.

It is required once they get to prototype.

How much is a car needed when they are at nuke school or after? My son is in A school, then has power and prototype. He is ET and signed up for sub.  He has been using Uber since I haven’t taken his car out to him yet(12 hr drive).

We were really fortunate to have great weather every time we were in Charleston. Mostly missed the super hot muggy weather - got just a taste of it the first night we got there the first time and it was stifling. So so thankful that we had such nice weather when we were there.

ProudofK, you really cannot walk in Charleston, you can just mosey along and drink the air. It’s a special and unique experience and I would do it as often as I could.

In Charelston we loved just walking. There is a beautiful park area - the Waterfront park area that is great to walk or just sit and enjoy the beauty. But if you like walking you can walk south from there and end up walking along Battery St clear around the tip of Charleston (it turns into Murray Blvd. most of that is right along the water so it makes for a beautiful walk - especially if the weather is nice.

Mshelle, the humidity can make things feel "grungy" as you say.  If you're not really used to the conditions on the coast then that could be making a difference that only a dehumidifier might help improve.

I've heard that Cypress Gardens is open again.  Both  my daughter and I wanted to go see the lake where they shot the swan scene in "The Notebook".  Unfortunately it never reopened after Matthew (at least not until after she left).  Maybe something like that?  Top favorites on my daughters list were: Ft Sumter, the Market in Charleston and her favorite shooting range.  There's a minor league hockey team in town, not relevant now, but it will be soon enough.

Any suggestions on making my sailor mor comfortable in  GC?  I know she is a neat freak as we used to be in food  service and I always demanded sanitation,.  She just can't get comfortable,  she says.  She has cleaned her room, but it still feels grungy.  I actually flew down to GC to apend the weekend as she is feeling down.   What can I do to help her out.  I know that there's not much that you can do to the room.  Where should I go to make her enjoy GC more?   We will do some exploring this weekend.   Thanks for all your ideas!

Mammagoose - thank you for the links. I am going to start compiling any and all information so when my sailor calls with a question I might be able to answer it!

PacNWmom - great picture! Looks like you both had a fun time.

helena2000 - your comment about holding your finger down on the page of a paper book is too funny. This is definitely something I would do!
