I remember when B was in GC they used to say that the Best Buy in Charleston was one of the top selling stores all thanks to the nukes!  I wonder if that is still the case?  I'm thinking yes lol!

I should probably reconsider a Kindle - it would make it easier for my reading (but I really, really, like having my books!) I think I'll look into the Paperwhite that you mention Chipmunk.

Comment by Mammagoose on June 27, 2019 at 12:16pm

I actually use two kindles and an iPad.  But they are older models of kindles so they have less space.

If you buy a lap top or even a Kindle, I would take your son with you to get what he wanted.  If you are still in GC, there is a Best Buy in Charleston, I think that is where my son got his and they give a military discount if I recall that he got on top of a sale price, over Labor Day Weekend after he arrived in GC.

SubMom - Prototype graduation in GC is held at the USS Yorktown at Patriot's Point.

Regarding the Kindle or Laptop, I would say it just depends. A Kindle is smaller and easier to hold, but you can get the Kindle app on a Laptop. My son bought a Yugo ?? It is a newer computer and the lid will completely fold backwards. I think it is also powered by a USB port, verses a specific brand name's power source and their own adaptor plug. The benefit of a laptop is getting one with a camera so that you can Skype on it. The Kindle is nice because it has a longer battery life and the newest one I just noticed on Amazon is able to change the backlighting on it. My son's doesn't have the lit screen so he uses his Ex Scope flashlight. I do not recommend getting a Kindle Fire. My husband had an early edition (it may have changed) but it really was not that versatile and early on he had issues with the charging port.

Thanks B'sNukeMom !!- I will forward this to my son. I had not even had a chance to start googling and looking for the information, but he asked me about it last week, so figured I needed to inquire.

ProudParent - was Prototype graduation held on base? Was it NNPTC or NPTU

Chipmunk and Mammagoose - is it better to have a Kindle and a laptop for movies/games or just get a laptop that does all of it? Trying to think of a birthday gift that he can truly use(especially since we can't be with him and in his words "I don't need anything").

Chipmunk - I haven't heard anything about a revision to the PFA's - will ask my sailor next time we talk.

Hi all - Happy Thursday!

Chipmunk - I found some info regarding the changes that will take place in 2020.  It's not much info but it does confirm that sit-ups are out and planks are in!  The link has a video:

New Changes to PFA 2020

Comment by Chipmunk on June 27, 2019 at 7:31am

Auntie - Will Do!

A Question Everyone - My sailor asked me to find out if anyone knew about the new PFA rules with regards to the changes being made away from the sit-ups and instead to planks. I think he wants to know what order they are to do them in. He is trying to figure out the logistics so he can best be preparing and practicing for his next PFA once it comes due. - He knows we have all the answers here, (LOL) so often asks me to find out things for him.

Comment by Auntie on June 26, 2019 at 10:43pm

Thank you! Thrilled to be here.

Chipmunk - It's such a great resource. Please thank your Sailor.

Comment by Chipmunk on June 26, 2019 at 9:41pm

KayCee - Thanks for the pictures!! I hope your sailor gets things squared away!

ProudParent - Glad you had a good time at graduation and your sailors moving / lease issues are working out.

SubMom  - I like the paper books as well, but I have found great benefits to books on Kindle as well. I like my Paperwhite because I can read it in bed with its own light.  Yes, I am with you Mammagoose! I got my son started on the Kindle when he as still a teenager, and I put the classics, mostly free stuff and anything else that was easier to get for cheap on Kindle, but harder to find in print.

Auntie - Welcome aboard, I see you liked my A school Daily Schedule. My sailor helped me draft that discussion.
