Chipmunk, training commands are a bit different. In the fleet, when they are in port, it is a job. They work set hours most days, with duty days on a rotation like every 4th or 3rd day. Duty days they stay on or near overnight. At least that is how it works on sub. They only wear uniforms (or coveralls) at work, not after hours. His civvies are completely up to him.
Story about that -- my son doesn't always pay much heed to what he wears out of uniform. When we visited him in Hawaii, his clothes were getting a bit worn and not the best size. His mother took him to the really big mall in Honolulu and they had a great clothes-shopping spree, him paying of course. Best gift he could have given her.

Chipmunk my daughter was always dressed in civvies when she went into a port, and some are different from others.  She usually wore athletic pants (not super tight) but when they got to London she was sent back to change into jeans.  The funny part of that was she didn't have jeans so one of her male friends slipped off his (he had shorts on underneath) and she wore those.

I'd suggest him taking at least a change or two of civvies.

CSW looks like a morel to me.

Look what I found walking at lunch today!

Now that my sailor is heading to the fleet, I am wondering how many civilian outfits they are going to need? Primarily,  when they are in port and not on the ship, will they always be in their uniforms or will they be in civilian clothes?

Trying to help give my sailor some suggestions for packing and bringing clothes home that may not be needed for awhile.

mamaquilt68 - you will want to be early for A school graduation as well!. If I recall there is one left lane into NNPTC (google map it) and then there were two guard gates. When we were there for A-school, they had us go to the right gate and then pull forward so they could check our ID against the list that is given. Be sure your sailor is able to have their cell phone or that they have given you their SLPO's # so that if there is a problem you can call someone to escort you. (Names have been known to be left off the list.) - There should be sailors past the gates to direct you as to where to park. Usually graduation is held in the Rickover, but if there is a large attendance expected it will be in another building. - I am thinking it is the Bowmen Center but not for sure.

Make sure to have an umbrella with you as showers will pop up any time they want!  Your sailor should be able to give you any last minute instructions on Thursday eve.

Enjoy!! and Congratulations to your sailor!

My sailor is graduating MM A School on Friday in GC.  Any hints on what to do?  It's not like PIR with tons of instructions.

Evening or maybe morning by the time you see this -

JayDee - Sounds like you had a great time with your Nukette! When it comes time for a trip to Norfolk, I will have to get your recommendations on beaches.

MTBCHCK & Kerriknowz - All the best to your sailors as they start in on the Nuke Pipeline.

MTBCHCK - Things will move quickly now - and then they won't lol!  It's the Navy way - be flexible, be a cheerleader, come here for support and to vent.  We've got your back!

Son is classing up tomorrow! I thought he said Thursday. The adventure begins. This is an exciting moment. I know some moms wanted to hold their children tight and that is ok. I wanted mine to fly from the nest. He is. He is going his way and that is great. Excited to be a nuke mom. More excited that he is on his own adulting and not being a burden on society. Just the beginning of his new life. YAY!!!
