SlezaksMom - wishing your son all the best as he starts prototype school!  Hope he packed lots of warm clothes as the weather looks really cold brrrrr. (I'm from California so as soon as it gets below 75 it's cold for me!)

@mommamac - thanks!

@michianamom - I'm pretty sure it's a GPA thing, but I can't remember. It was a whirlwind trip and my sailor didn't start off well. He struggled with the "potential" to learn and do well v. the "application" of himself to his studies. (This is why he had been a "just enough to get by student" in high school and college.) A-school is where he learned the joy of learning. Power-school is where he learned the limits of his effort and how to push through, to keep trying, and to do his best -- and that for most people our best doesn't look anything like perfection! :) the Navy has been good for him...

Just wondering, what are the requirements for graduating from A school with honors?

Last year my son was home from right before Christmas to several days after New Years Day.

Today's the day!! My honor grad from A- and Power- schools starts prototype in BS!! He and his roommates are all moved in and settled and begin this portion of his career. I'm optimistic, but he's a LOT cerebral and less social. The "book work" portion of the training has made this aspect of his personality a bit more prominent. Fingers crossed his friends and shipmates can help him stay connected the way he helped them with concepts and study help!

Either way, I'm excited for him!

Hi Dittersmom, no funny questions, all mine wanted me to ask here ahead of time was about the food and during our first visit this past weekend the most important thing on his list was a new pillow!

William wrote:  "The source is my reading of  MILPERSMAN 1510-030 para. 10 and MILPERSMAN 1610-040."

Great information William.  I scanned both of them, and my reading of them is that 1510-030 dated 16 SEP 2011 are instructions on how the Nuke Enlistment Contract and the pre-executed extension agreements should be prepared for Nukes going into the NF field at time of enlistment or during Boot Camp.

Since both our son's had PIR before that date some other version of a governing regulation covered them when they signed up as Nukes.

Not that it really matters for the purpose this was brought up for  here, but when I spoke with my husband over the weekend, he had indicated that the Nuke Contract and and all the other documents were still in my son's file cabinet down stairs.  His recollection was that they did not even talk about the extension for accepting E4, but they did talk about a 2-year extension that was required within 6 months of some qualification or some event.   And he also remembers discussing the extension that was required for the Crows at the time it occurred and that was not discussed in the Nuke contract or the documents that came with it.

I do know my son's date of separation increased from the 5 years point to 6 years after his PCS after prototype, and not after his PCS after Power School.  His LES was still showing a five year commitment on his first LES after he arrived at the sub base, then changed after that.

That said, the MILPERSMAN 1510-030 dated 16 SEP 2011 would appear to be the best information I have seen for anybody signing their Nuke Contract after 16 SEP 2011

I would advise anybody who cares to go with what William advised and forget my advise.

CO-Twin, thanks for the answer. My son keeps taking my pillow and I really think he is trying to abscond with it. Guess a pillow for christmas. Thanks again.

NotDaMama -thank you for your service.

Cute question, yes he can and anything else he wants, no civvies though till he gets phase 2. I didn't think of the pillow for twin 1 until he was deployed. I managed to cram it into an APO/FPO box. They are the same size as a medium flat rate box to give you an idea. And I stuffed homemade cookies and jam in it too. Had to have my employee sit on it to tape it shut. He said it made it in tact. LOL
