NJ Navy Mom Ship 03 Div 115 and SlezaksMom...

Thanks for the info!

But we just called the Staybridge Suites (where we are staying) for their help on the where to get a Thanksgiving Dinner question, and lo and behold, they serve a full home cooked Thanksgiving dinner at the hotel!!!  It's free too!

I can't say enough about the Staybridge Suites... free full hot breakfasts in the mornings, four nights a week they serve dinner with beer and wine... and it's all a part of the cost of staying at the hotel.  Just wonderful and nice people too!

We first stayed at a Staybridge after our home burned down in September and they helped make our tragedy seem a little less terrible.

Anyway... problem solved!  Yay!

PT does not shut down for holidays. Your son "should" get leave after PS. My son was classed up early for PT and can't take his planned leave. Hopefully your son gets his!

Yeah...what NancyJo said...I loved reading your post Tom. I am so hopeful that that is the experience my son has..."a family" from his sub!

Wow Tom!  Thanks for putting that into words for us.  Like J's mom I am going to cut & paste and save for future reference (and also pass on to family members who always ask me "what exactly is sailor doing in school?")!

Great work, Tom! You boiled it down to a very understandable level. But trust me, we moms who have been here a little while (for me only 3 yrs, there are others here longer) know all about letting go and letting God. Once the communication starts to decrease b/c they are too busy, too tired, too something, and they get so focused on their job, we have no choice. And more than one mom has commented on her little boy/girl becoming not so "little" any more. Hard to make that transition but, again, no choice. Moms who can't do this make things so hard for their child that it is detrimental and increases their chances of not making it.

Keep it coming, Tom. I do believe you are another treasure for us to cling to.

B'snukemom, glad your son had a good experience. My son is not so impressed with the navy medical in BS. He says he will do anything to avoid going. Of course, if you need medical you need medical. I'm just glad they take care of those things. I think if someone didn't do it for him, my son would just coast along and never do those rudimentary things like get his teeth cleaned. Oh, he brushes; it's making an appt. that seems insurmountable. For an intelligent fellow, sometimes I just wonder....

suebal, so wonderful to read the happiness between the lines! It's so reassuring for those of us whose sailors are not yet in the fleet. It sounds like you and your sailor had a very special time that you will always remember. I'm so glad for you both.

Not da Mama, hang in there. We will all hope for a good outcome one way or the other. Prayers for you and your sailor.

Oh one more thing when we spoke with our son he mentioned that they did get their flu shots last week (actually the nose spray)....before he had told us that it wasn't going to be until December but they came into class last week & lined them all up and took care of it.  Glad they got that out of the way.

He also had a teeth cleaning yesterday and they fixed a cracked filling (that he didn't know was cracked!).  He was very pleased with the dentist - I asked him how he went about making the appointment & he said it's their SLPO's job to set all that up.  So I told him basically your SLPO is like your mother! LOL

Good Morning All!  Thanks to everyone who replied to my question on leave when my son starts prototype.  We spoke to him last night & he said to just hang tight and they will be told everything 2 weeks prior to PS grad.....we'll just wait & see what the Navy decides - there are so many variables it's just not worth "what-iffing" the situation!

suebal - sounds like a fantastic trip you had with your sailor!  It's nice that you were able to make the road trip with him :)  Good luck to him in his next adventure.

NotDaMama - I will keep my fingers (& toes) crossed for your sailor and will say an extra prayer too!  I too am a little confused on how everything works in prototype.....so if they shut the reactor down for 5 weeks what do they do? Do they stand watch still, but he can't retest until they start it back up? Please keep us posted as you get more info. Hang in there!

Just got back from the bestest road trip ever! My sailor and I drove, together, up to his sub in Groton. He was born in CT, but this is the first time I've been back in 16 years (he's gone back with his dad for family visits)--I forgot how much I love it up there! Happiest I've ever been in my life was when I was living there.

We drove around the base for about an hour--"where does this road go? I don't know...let's see." Saw a sub in the water and one in dry dock. I know where the Subway is (I wonder if there's a Subway everywhere the Navy is! :))

The base is AWESOME! All hills...and since my son is a runner, he couldn't WAIT to attack them. He called me last night to tell me that he had, in fact, gone running and his legs were a wee bit sore. But since his barracks were being inspected by an Admiral this morning, he had some work to do last night. He said his roomies side looked like it had been hit by a cyclone, but he's not responsible for that stuff, only his own and he intended to NAIL the inspection this morning. Can't wait to hear how it went.

His roommate is also on his sub--the California. They're out right now so mine is not sure if he's going to be "hanging out" waiting for them to get back or if he's going to be flown out. He said either way he expects to be busy and acclimating and loving life. He's happy so I'm happy! The next leg of this amazing journey has begun...ohboyohboyohboy
