Hi Katherine21 - hopefully your son will start to get into a routine and will be able to manage his time.....there is a lot for them to do each day and little time to get it done but he will adjust.  Just keep everything positive when you talk to him and offer lots of encouragement!  He might not be able to talk on the phone much, but that is ok....he has a new, bigger focus now :)  Hopefully he can make a few good friends and they can hang out and "decompress" together after hours and on the weekends.  It's nice that you have family that can visit.....

katherine21 - there isn't really a protocol for the challenge coins that I am aware of.  I have purchased several for my son, but just went with what seemed to make sense at the time.  For example, after A School I got him the E4 rank coin, engraved with his graduation date. I have also given him the Machinist Mate rate coin (I believe after BC), Naval Station Great Lakes (after BC), and then some extras like the Sailors Creed and Fair Winds/Following Seas.

Get a nuke one.

My Son asked for prayers for a friend who he came from BC with who is really struggling.

Thank you all for the information. I added the security certificates and was able to access the web site. I appreciate all of the information. If anyone knows about the challenge coins and has an idea of which I should purchase, please let me know.

Katherine21-I just accessed that website without an issue. Maybe try again? My son's not completed boot yet, but assuming all goes well he'll be attending A School in October or thereabouts. I see a lot of posts about looking for apartments, etc. Aren't there dorms for A School attendees?

Does anyone have any trouble looking at the web site https://www.netc.navy.mil/nnptc?  I tried and it stated it is not secure. Is it just my browser? Has anyone gone onto this link?  Thank you.

I learn something new every day. I thought NF was guaranteed in their enlistment contract.

Hello everyone- I need some insight as I do not seem to have any of the Navy stuff down. My son called yesterday and just sounded a little lost. His main statement was he is feeling like he has so much to do that he cannot even talk on the phone. That's how I know it is getting to him. However he did say that he is not near having a meltdown.Does anyone have any ideas on how to add some Cheer and lighten his mood a little? My sister in law and his cousin are visiting this coming weekend so that is Great... but he needs more.

Also, (so for the length) my sailor is a Fireman he stated. For the challenge coins do I find a Fireman for school or what is suggested???

I appreciate any help and insight anyone can provide.  K

We heard from our son today and he sounded just OK. I asked I'm about his test last Thursday and he said he got a good score on it. Had a great weekend though. He then said he had received some good news and bad news. That's why I knew he sounded funny. They were told that they would probably be relocating for Prototype in Dec, this means they will be going to New York instead of staying in Charleston. But they would start school as soon as they return from the holiday stand down. I told him that's a good thing instead of bring on grad hold for an extended amount of time. Said that change will be a daily way of living now. After the all I realized why he wanted to stay in Goose Creek, we are only 7 hours from there and he could home if he wanted to now. Once he moves he will be too far out of his radius to even think about requesting leave. The decision to join the Navy affects not only the Sailor but the entire family. As a mom I try to keep him in great spirits when we are talking but after the all ends I'm a mess. We have been so lucky to have him this close since Jan. I told him well I guess I will be seeing New York soon. The good thing is he said that they will probably be going as a group so he will be with his friends. That will make it better. Sorry if this post is a little wordy but its been a long night. Thank god for this site.
