MN Mom of MM, as much as I'd like to go with you to Iowa, I'm going to have to pass.  I'll still have the five 3 week old foster kittens on Thursday and have to bottle feed them every 4 hours.

CountryGirl, Thanks for the link.  It so good to know they are headed west.  I saw earlier someone posted a picture of the IKE going through the Suez Canal.  Maybe soon we will have an exact date to get that long awaited hug, and some good quality family time.  For now I'm looking forward to meeting the Iowa/Omaha Navy Moms for lunch this Thursday.

Wanted to share, got a text earlier today from my son who started A school on Mon. 6/10/13.  They were going to the beach today!  He is happy, content, confident.  That makes me feel better.

I am planning on going to see him on the Fourth of July weekend !

Betsyleebig -- Rather than being disappointed in your son, you might focus on the courage and maturity it took for him to articulate his reality to you.  He probably spent many sleepless nights worrying about your feelings, when his time would be better spent exploring the ton of other options in the Navy.  As parents, we need to be very careful about putting too much emphasis on the elitism of certain programs and wanting to boast about our children's accomplishments.  One of the biggest drawbacks of the Nuke program is that there no vehicle to preview the reality of the work before a recruit signs up.  BTW, did you see the story on NBC this week about the Coast Guard lifesaving program?  Only TWO recruits remained in the current class!  All others had dropped out.  Hang in there and trust in your son.

Comment by NF Mom on June 15, 2013 at 9:26am

Hang in there Betsyleebig, your should be very proud, as well as disappointed, he made it into the Nuke Program, and through A-School and Power School, that is a very exclusive club of people.

Betsyleebig, left you a comment on your page. From menu bar, click "MY PAGE" in case you have forgotten. (((hug))) BQB.

Mine got word that he is staying in GC for prototype.  For him, it is great news.  He has a very good friend from HS that is at the Citadel.  For us, it is cheaper to fly in and out of Charleston than NY.

I happen to be from the Norfolk area and this may brighten your day.  This is a link from a local tv station letting us know the Eike is on its way home.  http://on.wtkr.com/MAxuLol

Wise words as always, J's mom. Nobody can say it like you do.

Comment by Adam'sProudMom on June 14, 2013 at 2:11pm

Betsyleebig, you sounded very discouraged in your post. I hope that you're feeling better, now. The most important thing is that you make sure your son knows that you're proud of him, no matter what.

It goes without saying that you'd rather have him alive and happy than to be one of the many Goose Creek statistics who felt they were letting their family down.

I only know about your son what you've written about him, but he seems like a very sensitive young man who could really use your support right now. All of the stories I've read on N4M of sailors who've left the Nuclear program seem to have happy endings. I'm sure yours will, too.

Sending you good thoughts.
